Has anyone played the Wizard Modern Classic II side by side to Fryette's CLX.
I know both a tight, but I would like to know whether the tone and feel is significantly different.

I owned an MCII next to a 50CL, UL and a D60. Tone is significantly different between the Wizard and Fryette/VHT. Mids, treble response are the biggest tone difference. Feel and articulation is different also. The Wizard is more articulate, more organic, more open gain structure/less compression faster in response/attack, better note definition, punchier on single notes and chords.

Everyone has different tastes, but for me the Wizard wins hands down. Whether the extra coin is worth it is a personal decision.

Well stated.

Both killer, and different enough to own each at the same time.

I would agree with all of this.
I owned a 100CL with GEQ for a while (not sure how much different the CLX is ), along with the MCII I still own.
The Fryette was a good sounding, tight, and versatile amp, but the Wizard MCII is just on another level.
Keep in mind the MCII cost me about 2.5 x what I paid for the 100CL.
edit: forgot about the D120 I owned at the same time. The D120 was a better amp then the 100CL, but the above still applies.

mhenson42 will chime in hopefully, he has both.

Having played them side by side, they are equally tight, clear and loud. The main discernible difference is the CLX sounds more hi fi and is capable of a tad bit of compression, the Wiz is more organic and open. Both are awesome.

Own both. Not much to add from above. The CLX would be kicked to the curb long before MCII.

It’s funny. I bought the MCII from the guy 2 posts up and the CLX from the guy one post up.
