I really like the Wizard Prestige neck profile. Feels the most natural and comfortable to me.

I own a few brands including Music Man (Axis and JP6), Gibson Les Pauls (50's and 60's necks), and many Ibby's. I have played many more brands.

It always feels like home everytime I go back to my RG20051 or RGA121 with the Wizard Prestige neck. I have come to realize it is my favorite profile. I have a 1990 RG770 (my first guitar) with a comfortable neck (std Wizard) but its not quite as comfortable.

I am looking to get another J-Custom (currently have an RG1880NT) but would like to get one with the Wizard Prestige profile, or close to it. The RG1880 has the much thicker "ultra" profile. I like it, but still not as comfortable as the Wizard Prestige.

The "newer" J-customs have a "Super Wizard" neck profile. I know the specs are extremely close to the Wizard Prestige but wonder if the taper and the overall feel is the same. I'm looking to pick up a J. Custom RG8420ZD and hope the neck feels similar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I used to have an RG770DX and I have to agree it's neck was definitely not as comfortable. There was just something about the ultra thinness that I just hated. I hate thick necks but my necks need atleast a little something to them.

The 770's Wizard neck is very thin. Though its the neck I learned on, I really am more comfortable with something slightly beefier. My EBMM JP6 feels even thinner than the 770. I tried to get used to it but everytime I go back to my RGA121 it just feels great.

+1 for the RGA121 necks. I have a couple of different Ibanez guitars, but the 121s have become my main gigging guitars. My absolute fav, though, is my usa custom. I love a crazy thin neck... it helps my lil stumps get around easier, as well as that nice 'n' wide radius.

The RGA121 has the Wizard Prestige neck. It also feels great on my RG20051. I played a few others and all these necks feel fairly consistent.

from what i have read, the "super" wizard is the same neck carve as the original wizard neck. i have always been told the super wizard neck is just a hand carved version that has the bubinga stripe down the middle for extra stability, since the original wizard necks had problems with warping or whatever it was. i got the information from jemsite when i was researching an ibanez rg570 i picked up. im not sure how true it is, but that was the pretty standard answer when i was researching it

Thanks for the info. I posted this inquiry over at jemsite a few days ago but no responses.

If I remember the specs right the standard Wizard neck is thinner than a Wizard Prestige and maybe a bit wider up high on the neck (around the heal). But we're talking 1 or 2 mm's here. Of course I could always just play each of them back to back but its hard to find a J. Custom in stores. I know that other models have the super wizard neck but can't find any of those either. Also, I have a difficult time telling right away if I like a neck. I need some time with it.

If the Super Wizard is close to the feel of the original Wizard then thats not the answer I was hoping for
