Hi folks!
I was wondering if anybody out there has had any experience with this new model by Wolfetone. Alnico 8, around 16k, sounds very promising! Anyone? Bueller?

I just received one on Friday and have only used it for a two hour rehearsal so I don't really have enough time on it to get a good grasp of its characteristics. So far so good, though. I put it in a '72 SG and played pretty high gain through a VHT Pittbull 45 head into a sunn Sceptre 4x12 with Jensen Tornado 100s. Sounded huge and easily cut through.

Cool! I am particularly interested in low tunings... How low do you go? I am considering it for a walnut body rosewood neck baritone Tele

I tune down to D and after playing that guitar a little more last night with the Monkeybucker I have to say I like it. It seems to have a bit of upper mid sizzle like a JB, but everything else seems pretty balanced from what I can tell (pickups are pretty difficult to really isolate their specific tonal qualities, at least for me). The lows are tight which I really like. But at rehearsal, at a very high volume, everything stayed articulate which is pretty ideal.

Upper mid sizzle... I figured, cause of the specs. Do you think you can compare it to any other pickup, such as Bare Knuckle, Motor City... Thanks!

I don't have enough time on it to really say a whole lot, but I did have a Bare Knuckle Mule in that guitar which was terrific (still have a Mule neck PU in it). I only switched it out since I was getting microphonic feedback at high volume with the Pittbull. But I get that with the Monkeybucker as well so it's the amp, not the pickup. The Mule is a PAF-like pickup so it's lower output, but I found it sounded great with high gain and probably had more low-mid emphasis. The Monkeybucker is a much hotter pickup and seems to have more emphasis on the upper mids. At least that's what I've observed so far. I have a Bare Knuckle Black Dog in a Les Paul, IMO sounds like a hotter Mule.

Oh yeah, the Mule neck pairs really well with higher output pickups on the bridge. Thanks, mate!

Curious if anyone tried the Monkey in a PRS Singlecut?

I have a PRS SC250. I loved the bridge pickup until I spent more time on some Alnico pickups and now when I play the SC, the bridge seems more edgy and hard.

I want more of that Alnico character mixed in. I'm thinking the Monkeybucker coild be the answer.

Before this thread goes off the rails into stupidityville,

Where is the Monkeybucker listed? Not seeing it on the site. I love the Wolfetone stuff, especially the OG Marshallhead. Absolutely nasty pcikup in an LP! I'd like to grab something a little thicker and hotter for a new band I'm doing so this has me interested.

The Timbre Wolf is great

If memory serves, Wolfe offers a Marshallhead and Marshallhead MKII. I believe one is hotter than the other. I used the MKII in a LPC.

The mki is the hotter version and utilizes an Alnico V whereas the mkii is alnico II. The mki is the one I dig but its a tad bright and thin for what I'm trying to do at the moment.

When I spoke with Wolfe, he said that one of them has more windings as well. I think I ordered a MK I set w/Alnico II magnets. I've had so many, it's tough to remember. I haven't played through humbuckers in a long time, but Wolfe's are definitely some of the best.

Jorger,

I have the Timbre Wolf A5 and ordered the Monkeybucker with extra Alnico 5 and Ceramic magnets to swap.

I believe it'll be delivered this week or next.

When it arrive i'll post a short review here with my opinions about the Monkeybucker with different magnets compared to the Timbre Wolf.

I'm very excited about the Monkeybucker, since the Timbre Wolf has been my favorite pickup in the last 4 years and now i want something more agressive and tight.
