on the plus side though cheap guitars are getting much better. prs se's are excellent for the money.
Those are getting pretty expensive too. The pricier ones are reaching over a thousand dollars. Weren't the original Santanas like 3-400 bucks?

i recently got a 2018 se tremonti for like 525 shipped
Standard or Custom? That's not usually what the Customs retail for, though, is it? Just checked. They're *normally* around $800, aren't they?

I agree, SE's (same as LTD's and almost everything that comes out of the WMI factory) are great guitars not just for the money. I picked up a Mike Mushok PRS SE last year, and a Nick Catanese SE two or three years ago. Great build quality overall, but I think they're not really cheap anymore as they used to be unless you find a good deal on them, which you seem to have done with the Tremonti.

I remember old Korean Ibanez SZ's were like 3-400, and they pretty much on par with any PRS SE currently in the 7-800 range (assuming of course you don't go out of the norm and find a discount or something).

JMO.

not only guitars, also amps and you are only paying just for a name brand, and model also if its famous too

2203x are 3k right now thats ridiculous

Fender and Gibson have raised their prices in the last 10 years. I have seen that translating to the used prices as well, which surprised me a bit as I keep reading how the electric guitar gear market is going down. Yet I saw used Fender American strats going for $1000 plus, where as I remember them going for around $700-800 all day long in around 2006.

Yes, I know about inflation, but then is the music gear market bubble just a myth?

Yea I've noticed this too! Crazy. Credit means get it" where the retailers boast the wonderful 36month no interest financing which makes the price seem non existent. It's all about the payment.FThat! MSRP, *making seriously repulsive profit* I guess the value of the dollar is so high and all. Lmmfaool. A pignose is 1500 with 0%interest financing " call your sales engineer so he can whack off while you purchase at these insane prices* lol a sales engineer, that come with a certified degree by chance. Damn the used market is booming* I'd be interested to know what number of these are financing and or trades where u get 1200 for a street value of 2800 bucks on a trade. Good ol retail banging its beloved in the kiester, I realize it's not 1989 anymore but wow. Great topic by the way!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: No guitar is worth more than $3k!
You can get a used car for that much for fucks sake.
At the end of the day It's just some pieces of wood and hardware.
As long as ppl keep paying, the manufacturers will keep charging that much and even more.
I will not buy a new guitar ever again just on the principle.

Yeah, you guys are right about the lower end ones being great. PRS SE and I was thinking the Charvels that are made in Mexico are great values too. LTD guitar play and sound great as well.

the new pro mod charvels are about $500 more than they were 2 or 3 years ago ... it's crazy

Maybe they need to bring back the Charvettes so us normal people can afford them haha

I remember my senior year in high school my grad gift was a brand new prs custom 22 10top and it was 2499.99 on the tag.

To get the rough equivalent model now its between 3600-4200.

A 1200-1500 dollar price hike over the span of 18 years.

That's mostly just inflation, though. $2499 in 2001 dollars is about $3550 in 2019 dollars:

WTF? See I remember when the JVMs first came out and I couldn't believe how much those were for the 100 watters. I felt like I had just woke up from a coma and expected spaceships to zoom past my head.
