Would You Use This Feature on a Pedal?

Electric Eye Audio makes a pedal called the Mud Killer. It's a glorified Tube Screamer, so whatever there. The cool feature about it is that it has a relay switch for channel switching on it. You can set it up as a boost where when you turn it on, it flips a switch on a relay and changes the channel on your amp. On would activate your crunch or lead channel, and off will switch to your clean. Is having a footswitch out jack on a boost pedal a cool feature?

I would just use my ES-8 ........... to switch everything and anything I want with one button push .

but if you have a simpler set up ... I could see how that would be useful

This fancy ts may not work with every amp but a neat idea. I used an sd1 boost for over a decade with many amps. I made my own loop switch channel switch pedal. It was nice to press one button.

Over the years I have realized many amp do not need a boost. Tube amps with 4 gain stages usually have enough pre amp gain already. They just need some minor voicing tweaks to use it all.

I learned about circuits and popular mods, bought an assortment of capacitors, and did it myself. The boost pedal's bass cut and mid push can be added to the amp's circuit instead. A smaller coupling cap, a treble peaking cap, and maybe a plate snubber will do the same thing. If the amp needs more gain the cathode resistor and bypass cap are a good place to start.

I did the same to lose the EQ in the loop for a high cut. I hate fizz, adding plate snubbers did the trick. No more always on pedal(s) for me.

If you have a two channel amp, it makes sense. I remember the first pedal i saw with it, i thought it was a cool feature.

For me, i am a single channel guy and always thought of a clean channel as an afterthought and unnecessary because I love the clean from a volume roll.

Then I started gating, and the volume roll didn't work so I put an end of line volume right before the input of my amp and set the min to a clean, so i could "switch channels" by using it as an expression on/off

It's cool for something like a Rectifier. Can push one button to switch from unboosted clean to boosted red modern.

That’s not true, with the right rig this would be very helpful when playing live.
1. In the day of midi and modelling this is an amateur approach
2. The assumption is that this pedal would be the single point of switching. What if you don't want the effect? Is there a separate button now? If so, use the original footswitch.
3. This is far from an infinitive approach. It's been thought of and not caught on for a reason.
4. I know a guy that used a steroe plug on his guitar. When he took it out of the bridge position it switched his amp. That I think is more creative. If you have a 2 channel amp, control it on your guitar.

Hater. It's a useful feature for a simple rig to switch from clean to boosted overdrive and back.

It's not hatefull, I'm just pointing out from an engineering standpoint that it's far less practical than marketed. What if you want to change the channel without the boost? It seems like this "feature" gives you less switching options, not more.

You use the normal footswitch. Amps like the Recto have two footswitch jacks.

It's a specialized thing pretty much for Rectifiers, but Rectos are common amps and nearly everyone using one boosts the OD channel and not the clean channel. This solves the problem of switching quickly.

The pedal will work for a single button switch. Most amps have a single footswitch. Not all amps use latching switches as well. This is a very niche use market. Even if an amp has 2 foot switch a jacks. Once will override the other

Yes you could use MIDI which I do or you could use a box (TAE) to do the same thing. But sometimes you don’t want to deal with that rig, but you do want to bring that 2ch amp.

I get what you are saying but don’t tell me this has no place when I’m telling you I have had a place lol
