So I wanted a 1x12 cabinet to use as an extension with my combo I use for small gigs (Mesa Express 5:50) and just an all around 1x12. I have a Port City Wave OS 2x12 that I love so I bought a OS 1x12.
Here's the kicker. My Mesa cabs and my 2x12 Port City are loaded with V30s. I decided to try something different and I stuck an EVM-12L in the port city OS 1x12. Holy crap. I love it. Heavy stuff kicks you in the gut hard. Clean stuff shimmers with depth. The best part for me is it scales. I play a lot of varied places, some quiet, some not. I find I have to dial in my amps differently depending on the venue because how loud I play impacts how much the V30s break up, etc.
With the EVM-12L in the Port City I just crank it up and I have exactly the tone I want, no fuzziness. The 200 watter does just fine throwing sound out of my Roadster head and doesn't miss a beat.
Long story short, I have a favorite combination. Looks like I'll be selling a couple of V30s and putting EVM-12Ls in my Port City 2x12. I'm sure it's not for everyone. But if you let your amp do most of the work and you want the same tone in a bunch of situations, I'm really digging the EVM-12Ls.
