It's a common doctors' scene sound sample add in. I have heard it so many times, on so many soaps, grey's anatomy, etc.
You are correct, they were common sound samples used in soap operas and sprinkled in some movies as well, which is where Queensryche came across them (IE; they were in use prior). I hear those same samples from time to time in mondern movies but not as much as back in the then. Operation Mindcrime was ahead of it's time (at that era) and their follow up "Empire" was also ahead of it's time - still great records to this day (IMHO). I've seen them live several times and they always sound amazing and put on a great show.
Happy holidays!!
Trace
Hell yeah Trace! Mindcrime and Empire are my two favorite 'ryche albums.

Probably because I grew up listening to them. I was like 9 or 10 when I got into Mindcrime.

And I'll never forget when Empire came out, my dad took me for a ride in his old GMC and put the cassette on and said "listen to this" and I was blown away!
I was pretty lucky because both of my parents were into rock/metal. My mom likes more of the melodic stuff (beatles, Aldo Nova, Supertramp, Motown stuff, up to Metallica) and my dad like Sabbath, Floyd, Metallica, some Pantera, and some of the newer heavier stuff like KSE. Not bad for a dude in his 50's!

Last year, he took me to the local music store and bought the newest AIC when it came out and we listened to the whole thing a couple times through, and then we switched it to one of the hard rock/metal stations on XM radio, and he said "man, these new bands don't compare to Alice"

It's cool that he knows and appreciates good music still.
