I play a Strat and currently own the "Xotic SP Compressor" and rather like it for light compression and sparkle. I've been told/heard myself that the EP Booster is fantastic for Strat's as well, and when paired with the SP Comp grants you "sparkle and finesse". This revelation of tonal possibility of course had me all hot and bothered, scheming to purchase the EP to mix and take over the world. However, i've been watching a lot of Stymon OB1 demos lately and have come to the conclusion that this pedal literally embodies the SP/EP combo on paper and seems to accomplish this feat in the demo's sound wise as well. This is hard to gauge though due to the obvious compression that youtube videos add.
I can't try them all out at once to confirm my suspicion as I have limited funds and the local stores here do not carry a wide range of products.
The questions I pose are these: Has anybody tried/owned all three and decided that the OB1 kills two birds with one stone; Negating the need for the EP/SP combo for subtle but sweet tonal enhancement? Should I sell the SP to fund the OB1? Or should I keep the SP and buy the EP to accompany it?
I hate squishy Nashville style compression and mostly just want to add focus, attack, detail and beautiful nuance to my clean sound, so tremendous versatility is not a real concern/factor in this.
All insight on this topic would be greatly appreciated
