ummm it sounds good BUT i have to say, it doesn't have the sound...

Also i have to say, for me, its my opinion okay? it sounds like it feels and i'm betting and it feels like a digital modeler amp.

This is a forum right? so i'm throwing out my opinion. i don't mean to insult anyone. ( i have to make that clear so someone doesn't just react and possibly embraces it for discussion)

Like i said i use an x3 live out on the road and, so to speak anyway, fool people all the time sense there are two Marshall's on stage with me but as a player, as a guitar player, the main thing for me is that x3 doesn't have the feel and in my opinion, again, MY opinion,... i know i know i could be wrong, no digital modeler amp ever will.

Now to be brutally bluntly honest here i dont think this clip sounds that good. the playing is fine and i don't mean to talk about anything along those lines but this is just one step farther than a line6, it allows you to model an amp yourself and that is way cool ( the next step in modelers) ...BUT it still sounds and more importantly i'm betting feels like a modeler.

my 6 cents,
Mark

rockstah, I asked Pete about the feel thing a couple weeks back on his first Kemper clip, he said it fells pretty much like the real thing.

Don't hate me for this, because I have dug most of the Kemper clips, but this sounded more like Tom Sholtz and his Rockman playing Van Halen.....not that that's a bad thing....just a little unusual.

I am serious....just my opinion. I am not criticizing the playing because Pete is a great player. I am also not criticizing the tone. It just does not sound like the VH tone. Sounded more like.....well, "More Than A Feeling Tone". But, hey, the world needs Boston tones as well. Don't have a MI....this is just a forum of opinions.

Hey guys,

Posted it for comments - so good or bad, lay em out. Nobody needs to apologize or soft-pedal for their opinions - it's all good. The one thing I did on this was I captured the sound of *my* marshall, I wasn't going for all out VH tone. It sounded ok to me and I had a backing track sitting around. My '70 Superlead is bone stock - jumpered channels and hotplated it - was still stooopid loud.

Here's the crazy thing - I put the amp in my 'amp room' and I was in my 'control room' with mics on the amp - what you hear is *exactly* what it sounded like through the microphones. So if you don't like the tone, you don't like how I miked the amp because it's what the amp sounded like.

What I'd like is for someone to get one of Mark's amps and profile it - and then see how the clips sound. Would be VERRRYYY interesting IMHO.

BoneDarrell - we need to get together, maybe next week if you don't have anything going on? I want to expose you to the Kemper and profile a few of your kickass amps if you don't mind. Plus I'd like someone to give a good reality check - I'm sure more than one person thinks I've overdosed on Kemper Koolade :)

Absolutely! Would like to check out the Kemp first hand! You can profile my amps...no problem. Sent u a PM.

Slow down guys... remember, the Kemper is only putting out what comes in. I listened to the posters other clips and they all sounded mic'ed up in a similar fashion. I thought the clip sounded good and authentic enough but not that VH ish. The test should be post your mic'd amp and the Kemper doing the same thing from the same session and then you can compare and see whether or not it hits it. So , someone send Rockstah a Kemper and then we'll see if it sounds like a modeler. We have to remember what many have already said:

shit in --> shit out

Obviously I am not saying the author's tone was shit I am just making a point..

AS an EVH freak I have no problem reading your thoughts, we all know what you can do playing wise and your work modding marshalls

EVH's Iso tracks also do not sound very good, very thin and razor treble so IMO I would not be chasing that tone myself. I thought this sounded great but you do make a point, the feel.

I thought it sounded great Pete and hope that you can profile some other builder's work so we can compare

I think the clip sounds a little wierd, like the EQ is spiked in a few places. But if the original source sounds like that then the Kemper is doing it's job I guess.
