Like on alchemy, they are not very good IMO.

His live tone is awesome... When I saw him a few years back, he sounded great. And Kage has this bootleg where he is playing Hendrix and he sounded great too.

But on some of the older albums its really thin, and raspy IMO.

I also think those DOD preamp pedals suck balls. :D

I have an old yellow one that is totally worthless. Its got the raspy top end that sounds A LOT like Yngwie's tones Im referring to. Of course, this is all IMO. I just never could get that DOD pedal to work for me.

But anyways, anyone else agree with me on some of Yngwie's recorded tones? I dont mean all of them, but some of them... not too good IMO. And the funny thing is, I am a Strat/Marshall guy.

Im not baggin' on Yngwie BTW, I do like a lot of his stuff. But I think Alex Flouros' video of Far Beyond The Sun has better tone than the original. :scared:

The overall production on Yngwie's first album was pretty much crap, just listen to that tin can snare drum. Seems like as Yngwie made more money he was able to spend more time in the studio and each album sounded better. The album he did with Joe Lynn Turner flat out kicked some ass, i wish Ygnwie would have made some more albums with him.

Most shred guys have really bad rhythm tones IMO. Yngwie, Vai, Satch, Gilbert, Becker, etc.

Whats that album called? I have his discography on my iPod, and I had it on shuffle, and some of the songs had good tone and some of them did not.

I know Alchemy is a newer album, but the tone on Hangar 18, Area 51 sounded pretty bad to me.

I like the tones he gets on the following albums...Marching Out, Trilogy ( listen the opening to "Fire")Seventh Sign and Magnum Opus and Attack ( lead tone). In Regards to the DOD pedal, the yellow does not even COMPARE to the old Grey One..they are two different animals. The grey one is warmer/tighter and smoother. I found that they only work effectively with the pickups he uses too ( very low output). Hs-3's/YJM's..IMO.
