Pick anything.., I was listening to Steve Harris bass tracks, Ian Paice and Nick Menza isolated drum tracks etc.. what strikes me is how imperfect and human so much of it sounds. Drums sound like drums! Less clicky kick. Basslines have slight timing issues as do guitars. You hear pick scratches, wrong strings hit at times. Sometimes you clearly hear where the tape has been spliced and a fill added etc. What I love is that these all sound so human. I know it has been said before but the quest for perfection in today's product is what makes it lack any sort of personality. It is almost like filters on facebook photos. Everyone looks great. It has got to make people now so uptight about their productions that they focus more on the production rather than the strength of the material. Am I wrong? Is this why music inspires less today? These old tracks just really turn my crank. Listen to this shit;

Deep Purple, so clean as well... bass is tight!

I'll be checking that DP video later for sure.

I'm def glad they exist. After years of playing the main acoustic part for Zeppelin's Ramble On wrong (and seeing countless others too); I found a lesson where someone had obtained the raw track and figured it out. So simple yet so pretty.

You have a good point. Music does not need to be "perfect". There are plenty of classic albums with "mistakes". We're not machines so why make everything exactly spot on?

Last time I recorded I left mistakes on purpose.

I love isolated tracks. There's always something new to notice in even the most familiar songs.

I just watched a documentary on the Machine Head album. What a crazy story on how that was recorded.

No kidding.. and i am feeling bummed about the 13 x 11 space I have carved out for myself and my drums/guitars etc.. in my new place and here these guys had way more gear jammed into a similar space. Granted they had the high ceilings but it goes to show it is all about the performers and the vibe, not every minute detail like bass traps , reflection, diffusion etc etc. Obviously if you can do those things great but i am looking at the pics of the space and looks like blankets thrown around the drums.

Yep I like these a lot--your right the human element is somewhat missing today in these new songs..The Deep Purple one is just killer.
