You totally hit the nail on the head with this... that's the ONLY thing holding me back from the BB, is that I remembered some of that "tube screamer syndrome" going on in it.

That being said, the BB is still an incredible sounding pedal, and in my opinion, the best in it's category of overdrives.

I've never played the BB, but the AC DEFINITELY had tubescreamer syndrome.

get a DIII. The used GC website has a bunch of the black ones (Classic Distortion) for like $25.

I should get my Crowther Hotcake today so ill let you know about that one but I really like the Wampler stuff that everyone has recomended. I know they are a little bigger but the tech 21 character pedals sound pretty damn good also.

The barber direct drive is pretty cool, i also dug the dirty little secret. But i've got an MI Audio tubezone (older three knob version) and that thing is pretty awesome. I was kinda surprised how much gain was on tap. I think it does mid gain stuff very well!!

No one said the Z. Vex Box of Rock? I've got one and it does that classic rockish mid gain thing perfect.

I can't believe anyone talked about the Lovepedal Eternity?! To me, this has been my OD pedal since the day I played live with it. Sweet tones that are not harsh... Another one that I would also recommend is the Rockett pedal Flex-Drive. Another cool one that has a bit more edge than the Eternity. I have both on my pedalboard and I am extremely happy!

It might be a little bit overkill, but for me the Baldringer Dual Drive worked extremely well. It would also give you the option for more gain.
