A good older Japanese Gibby clone. Not every one of them is great but you can surely have a pair for under a grand on the used market if you are patient. New market would go to Edwards, Godin, and I'd say that the mij jackson's that I've played have been nice for the price although they're not my thing. Skinny necks cramp my hands.

I like them all though. i think the LTD's might be the best bang for buck modern guitar.

Right now I have to give the nod to the So-Cal Charvel that I bought, it would have been my RG550x but the charvel has better tone out of the box and the hardware paint lasts longer.

i've never owned a guitar that cost $1k or over...but i'll take any ibanez rg under a grand any day of the week. of course, i DO have to "customize" it first...LOLZ!

I learned a short while back that the difference between a guitar that is under (but near) 1K, and ones that are over, isn't very much.

So, I have an Epiphone LP Standard plus-top, w/ SD 59's, and an RS Guitarworks tone kit...just need to change the nut, and it'll be great. It's good now, but it'll be better with a good nut.

I do have to say that my Dad's 75 LP Custom has teh mojoz though...
