for those of you that run music channels on youtube and get lots of hits, what's your technique? what type of keywords do you use, what else you use to get views?

cheers!

BUMP for some expert advice.

I have been contacted by these companies that inflate your profiles, but I know it has to be a scam, so some actual advice would be greatly appreciated.

Put a hot naked chick in the preview thumbnail. problem solved :)

There are sites you can join to get you thousands of views, but I'm not sure of the catch...might have to advertise a product for them or put out a certain number of videos?

Develop your impersonation skills. Perhaps a Christopher Walken voice? And then never show your face.

you have to post ur vids as video responses to other vids that get a crap ton of views. it helps to have good editing, picture, and in ur case audio. cheers! editing is very important by the way.

Herro guys!

My tips(that works!)

1. Name your videos accordingly.
Choose a name that's simple but describes the content, everybody might have noticed my formula:
"Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier - Metal"
I know when I want to check out an amp I want to know how it sounds metal wise so if I search on youtube for say: Orange Rockerverb. I will click on the first video that mentions metal. Maybe someone can start a trend with "Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier - Jazz" or something.

2. Use the description to your advantage, write down EVERYTHING there, signal chains, links, songs. And don't hold out. SHARE EVERY SECRET, people will appreciate your effort, not when you're being a secretive cunt.

3. Start a couple of years back. Meaning you should have started your channel years ago :D 50% of the guys with a lot of views started their channels around 2006.

4. No bullshitting in the videos. Just try to be as straight to the point as you can. You can always add humor, to spice up a video but don't make your speeches to long if you have any.

5. Try to be consistent with your uploading. Maybe not once a week but try to upload something once a month at least.

AND THE MOST IMPORTANT TIP OF ALL:

6. Don't upload half-assed attempts of whatever you're doing, do not upload clips like:
"oh yeah this is me trying to play eruption but I fucked up on every note"
Compare the videos as a live performance, if you NEED to practice before a show, do the same for your video.

Hope that helps guys! I might just add something later,

Cant even begin to stress that.

+912378974 to what Ola said,

but sex sells indeed, the amount of hits on some videos cos the thumbnail looks hot is laughable sometimes but logical

While I am no Ola, I have gotten my channel from 100 subs to over 800 in about 6 months and at this point have several companys sending me gear to put in my videos so I feel I can answer this question as well:

- Make videos of what people want to see. While everyone enjoys a good JCM800 video, it won't at this point light the world on fire. Listen to the talk of forums like this. My most popular vid is a Fulltone OCD and Maxon OD808 boost comparison and u made thy one after a debate over on The Boogie Board.

-Work that shit. Join lots of forums and talk to people. I can't stress the power of social networking as well. I am sure Ola will tell you how Facebook has really helped push his videos and really gets people talking.

-TIME. Like Ola said your channel should be around for a few years and over time people slowly start to watch and share your videos if they are good and honest.

In general, you just need to be making videos people wanna see. Seems kind of straight forward.

And yea, sex sells. 4 years ago a buddy and his gf and i were drinking and cooking out and I took a video of her trying to put her mouth around one of these polish sausages we were about to grill. Put it up and it now has 35,000 views. Stupid. The video doesn't even have sound.

The advertising thing...youtube contacts you and asks you about it. They asked me a couple of months ago. Never accepted it cause I put up videos randomly and could really care less.

I heard the indexing helps if you get unique hits around the world, not just all local.
