YTF - Vivien Campbell in Dio (1985)

Waht does YTF mean? And for that matter what the hell does FTW mean?????
 
Sweet! I saw Viv with Dio on the Sacred Heart tour. Rough Cutt opened. Dio fought a dragon that had laser eyes! CLASSIC!! GREAT show!!

Vivian was Dio best guitarist hands down. Doug Aldrich is a Bad Ass too, but they don't match up with the early Dio. I do have to say Aldrich is good for Whitesnake and Vivian is wasting time with Def Leppard. Def Leppard lately just sucks. It's not that they are not agressive and gone mellow there songs just suck.

I love Dio as a band and love his voice but he comes across like a douche. But he's right, we probably wouldn't know who Vivian is unless Dio brought him into his band. And what did go down between them?
 
All I know when I went to see Dio in '86 I expected Campbell, by then he was replaced by Goldie.

FWIW: I do have some Dio boot concert vids from '83 and '84.

Wow, that was badass. Why couldnt he do this in Whitesnake or Def Leppard? Wasted talent IMO...
 
that's some awesome videos! I saw them on that tour in the states. I'm pretty sure Viv was using Randall's when I saw him - I remember thinking it was the clearest guitar tone I ever heard live, and he was so on it was rediculous!

I remember, he kinda had a personal war going on with Yngwie -or at least Guitar Player magazine tried to make one. I remember him saying something like "I don't give a flying f*** how fast Yngwie is". The magazine tried to perpetuate that into a fued. Not sure why he left DIO, but I think he was under pressure to constantly come up with music for the band. You have to remember in the 80's some of these bands would put out an album, tour for 8 months, and turn right around and record again. Nearly two albums per year sometimes.

I think it was financial issues - uneven pay scales (Dio not wanting to pay him more etc.) IIRC.

if i remember correctly he beat out lynch, jake, and some other guys to get the DIO gig

WOW! Never realized it was such an acrimonious split! Viv was still the best guitar player in Dio though (for me)...look at where Viv is now, 2nd fiddle in Douche Lep... pfft..wast of talent
 
let's keep in mind that noone forced viv to join def lep :lol: :LOL: ...he plays leads in the band just like steve clark did...and pretty recently he went on record basically denouncing metal.... :D :doh:
 
Vivian is just wallpaper in Def Leppard, Phil Collen just relegates him to a quiet background noise :lol: :LOL:

Dio doesn't mind leather garb

but he draws the line at people actually made of leather
