anyone ever hear about a brand of guitars from ZION ?? specifically a zion radicaster ?? someone is offering one in trade for a guitar i have for sale, but i dont know anything about em. apparently it is an early 90's guitar.

I had one way back then and it was one of the best guitars I've played. Great fret work, neck and playability.

Gave it to one of my best friends when I had hurt my hands and quit playing. Really wish I still had that thing.

The old ones seem to go really cheaply these days, so keep that in mind in any trade.

It's probably worth that, but that thing is pretty funky, pointy headstock, too.

I think resale would be a little tough
.

Nearly every Zion of any model on ebay is listed at $1k or more. Recently completed auction search doesn't show any have sold, but there aren't that many either. If it's in good shape it's a thousand dollar axe.

It's an early one due to the pointy headstock and marble paint job. I have a piccaso with the first fender headstock shape after the pointy Jackson style. I got $450 for it loaded with andersons and a Kahler. They still rate as one of the best hot rod guitars I have played.

Yeah, that´s an old Zion. If it´s in good shape it´s a killer, killer guitar.

I actually just got my brand new Radicaster a couple of months ago, so they´re still around as a low-profile custom builder. Zion has been around for 30 years, but for some reason or another they never hit it big like Valley Arts or Tom Anderson - even though they definitely are up there in quality. I guess Ty Tabor and Phil Keaggy weren´t big enough names for people to take notice.

I've only played a couple, and that was back around the time that one was made. Don't recall exactly how they felt or played, but I remember wishing I could afford one.

I found an old Zion (same headstock as in your pic) at Guitar Center a few years ago and bought it for $199. From what I've seen, I got very lucky. The old solid color Zions (like mine) go for $450-$550 on ebay, those with the fancier finishes significantly more. I'd think that guitar would be worth the $750 if it's in good condition.

They are very good quality.

199 bucks? That´s a steal if ever I saw one. Considering that a new Radicaster fairly easily ends up in 3K territory you can tell that these are great finds on the used market, even at around $1000.
