Celestion Lynchbacks?

It's been a while but I seem to recall the Lynchbacks had a very pronounced mid scoop on them, but I don't recall how it sounded in the lows and highs (ie, flubby, tight, shrill - just not sure).

I had always wanted to try those but I believe that they only came in 8 ohms and I needed 16 at the time. Now that I am getting older, I stopped going down that rabbit hole and keep a Greenback cab and a V30 cab around and leave the rest alone.

For now anyway! Still want to try some creambacks.

I have 2 of them with very, very low hours on them that I will put up in the emporium for a killer deal. PM me if you are interested!

It's been a while since I had them. I remember digging the tone, but I think they weren't tight enough on the lows while using my 7 string.

Like everything Lynch, they probably did discontinue it just to replace it with something else a few years later :p ....

From what I have heard of them, they seem to come off as a bit "darker" and that has been one of the complaints IO believe. I play Weber Legacy 65's, greenbacks, and Lynch's original eminence Super V speakers. The Super V are crispy, if you want some body and cut, check those out too. All in though, I think G12-65 are my faves. Have an old one in a JCM800 used to shit but it sounds sweet. Has the crunch, detail, but also some warmth on the highs.

They're not too V30-ish to my ears. Rather, I'd say they're sorta like a modern, cleaner Greenback with a little T-75 thrown in.

I don't find them dark either. It could be that they're only avaialable in 8 ohms and 8 ohms are normally darker than 16 ohm versions of the same speakers. That, and they haven't got the signature V30 upper mid spike either.

I'm sure they're great with Marshall-style amps.

I have them in my 4104 combo. I love them. like a meaner Greenback or something. I like them alot.

Yes the Midrange has this Mean growl to them..overall smoother & tighter than a GB - I like how GB/LB sounds mixed together.

You might be on to something dude...

I believe it was designed to be a cross between a greenback and a fane from the hi watt cab he loved so much.

I think that is what the Eminence Super V was based on, not the Lynchback. Lynchback is supposed to be a higher wattage 'modern' Greenback, if that makes sense.

It's an awesome speaker man. It's a little bit darker than you might think but in a good way. It's funny because the Lynchback vs V30 is similar to some differences I was debating a while back between my Friedman BE-100 and JJ-100. The Lynchback would be like the JJ and the V30 would be like the BE. Someone said mid-scooped, but II don't think so personally. It has a great midrange, but not spiked like a V30. I bought mine on clearance for $82 totally brand new and it's probably the best deal I've ever gotten on a speaker.

Perhaps the Eminence was as well, but he was definitely referencing the old Fanes + old GBs when R/D'ing the Lynchbacks. Around the time of the LB release there were a few videos of him saying it directly.
