Has anyone put KT66s in an EVH 5150?

I’ve got an original 50w head, loaded with stock 6L6s. Has anyone experimented with KT66s? From what I’ve read they have a little bit more in the mids than an equivalent 6L6 which sounds pretty attractive. What I don’t know is if a 5150 will run properly on them without mods?

Definitely post on the FB page and ask Howard to chime in. Lots of folks were asking about swapping in EL-34s and he got pretty tired of explaining how/why it would not work.

The only KT66 I would try in that amp is the Tung Sol.
The Tung Sol spec sheet says it draws 900ma of heater current. Same as a 6L6.
Most other available KT66's draw 1300ma, which could damage the PT.

If you want to switch things up, try a pair of wafer base Sovtek 5881's.
They are a direct replacement for 6L6's

I wanna say KT66’s sound is more Vintage. I put some in my SLO and was happy until I put in some Sovtek 5881’s. Best the amp has ever sounded imo
