What cable do you use for making speaker cables?

I want to know a good quality cable to use. I REALLY don't want to buy more than 50 feet.

12AWG a good way to go?

They will be no longer than 8 feet with most being 3 feet.

Would a typical Switchraft jack work? I have a bunch from instrument cables?

I am most definitely a competent solderer.

What do you all recommend?

I ordered canare 4s11 with hope of making a bunch a new speaker cables. But I haven’t got down to it yet. If you got along that route, you will need to use connectors large enough to accommodate the cable width.

I use 14 gauge copper stranded wire, with red and black sheaths with jumbo Switchcraft plugs. It's tough to get 14 gauge into a standard instrument cable plug for soldering without it being too tight.

Canare
Mogami
Lake
Van Damme
Gotham

They all get the job done. Or just get some 18 AWG stranded bulk wire of any kind and make your own out of that. Use a drill to twist two black together. Then two red together. Then reverse the drill and twist each of those twisted pairs together to make a twisted quad. Done.

That said, I got some bulk Van Damme on Amazon for real cheap. I think I got about nine meters of it for $20.

Go to electrical supply house. When I had a large PA moons ago I could make them for pennies on the dollar.
