That's solid advice. I actually have a 101b. Awesome amp and the price is better (especially these days). But, I still have serious GAS for one. I've clearly been listening to too much AIC lately.
Owned the Fish twice with a VHT 2/90/2 and a 2150 and it's a cool preamp but quite noisy and can be really difficult to dial in. It is Unique and that adds to the mystique and all but I personally would just get an early 101b with the Mercury Magnetics.
That’s interesting feedback. I’ve definitey heard before the mystique is perhaps half the draw. It kind of is for me. I have an early 101B. Maybe I’ll do a marvel mod and mercury swap. Appreciate the advice. But still gonna keep looking for one anyway just to make that voice in my head go away haha.
Thanks for that intel. It’s definitely an early one so that’s awesome—I had no idea. I’ll play with the head a bit more until a fish drops from the sky for me to mess with.
Try to find one with the Cantrell mod on it, I'll be honest I've owned three Fishes and overall was unimpressed except for the one I have now. Early 90's with factory Cantrell mod. Not selling it either.
I had the fish. Used it with a Vht 2150, and also with a Mesa 395 switch trac. Really enjoyed it. However, once i plugged back into the Mesa Quad, I couldn't justify keeping it. Quad was more versatile, IMO. Was easier dialing in the fish than the quad though lol. Oh well, to each his own. Hope you find one bro.
The used prices are insane. On one hand I finally got a Fish, on the other the ordeal was an incredible pain in the ass. For 6k you could probably buy just about every amp you wanted haha.
I’ll add to this that bogner does do a voltage conversion for 275 ish. I had one done to mine. That being said with some patience you can get one cheaper. Good luck.
