Hello everyone,

I'm very interested in the CAB M but I couldn't find much info about it's EQ section.
I don't need any "real" EQ, but since this pedal would be last in my signal chain for FOH ideally I would like to be able to have an HPF - in order to filter the subsonic rumble from bass.

Something like 30hz and a steep slope, I don't know maybe 24db/octave would be great.
Of course an adjustable frequency and slope would be even better, but anyway : could anybody tell me what is available exactly today on the pedal ?

Bonus points if there is also a variable LPF available to calm the tweeters you can find on some backlines ..
And even better if you can select which filter goes to which output.
I mean it's all digital anyway so what would be the cost of an extra IIR really ?

Thanks in advance !

Hi

I just realized the manual wasn't very clear in that regard, we added some more explanation here, look at the EQ section (semi-parametric):

12dB/octave.

CAB M is mono, all outputs are fed by the same signal.

Extra memory and CPU processing? ;)

Hello Guillaume !

Thanks for the answer, I just ordered one on Thomann :)

Here are some ideas for even further improvement, if you're open to hearing them :
- mention the slope in the documentation (costs zero development time, and 12db/octave is what the concurrence does too, so that's good).
- an adjustable LPF would also be nice, I would say from 500hz and above but some start even lower : https://www.broughtonaudio.com/product- ... ass-filter
- adjustable Q for the 3 mid-band EQs. This would take this pedal to a whole new level ! Please consider it, seriously .. this would be an absolutely killer feature.

Please let me know what you think.
In any case like I said I ordered one already, thanks a lot already for making such a pedal !
I can't wait to get it :)

Hi KongValemon,

I didn't want to go with the full parametric EQ because most of our users are guitarists or bassists and a full parametric, in my experience, is very complicated to handle for someone who is not an expert.

I don't say we won't do it, but there are not so many full param EQ pedals (apart from modelers). So, I don't know, we'll see. ;)

Done.

I'm afraid I don't see why you would cut everything over 500Hz, can you please enlighten me?

I will think about it. We do have it on WoS and Torpedo Studio.

Ok so I tried to think about your questions but yes, I'm afraid you might be right that none of this is needed.

I have this pedal for EQ : https://www.thomann.de/gb/empress_effec ... _boost.htm
It does the job but it's expensive, it broke once already, and I would be happy if I could remove it altogether.

However these days very often I don't use it at all - I have a great bass nowadays and it sounds perfect without any EQ at all.
When I do use it it's usually because of some annoying frequency (like the ones which make the whole stage vibrate for instance), so I pinpoint it and cut it out (with a high Q, just a notch basically).

However this EQ is not something that I want to send to FOH, it's just for my amp onstage (or for monitors when I don't have an amp).
So with the CAB M being mono, having this feature would not help me.

For the LPF there are two use cases :

- I get a backline cab with a tweeter.
I like the highs in my sound, but most tweeters sound (very) bad, so I put a HPF on (usually around 2khz or so) and that's a good compromise.
However this is also something I would not want to send to FOH.
And also with more and more gigs being ampless it's slowly becoming less useful.

- the player wants a dark sound, for reggae/dub etc.
I don't do that but I know many who do.
What you must keep in mind is that even set at 500hz, it's still only 12db/octave. So let's say the amp is pumping out 100dB, at 1khz it's still outputting 88db, at 2khz still 76dB, etc.
This is a valid "special effect" setting IMHO, however the CAB M has no footswitch so I suppose it would be a bit complicated to make this feature work live ?

Ok you know what, let me receive the pedal and play it first, then I will update this topic as to whether I think that some new things would be nice to have or not.
Right now on paper it has what I need, that's the reason I ordered it :)

The rest would be nice to have but maybe not that important or practical, I'm not so sure anymore.
I don't want to point you in a direction and maybe you think it's a great idea and develop the feature yet in the end nobody uses it :)

Now that I know that you play bass it makes more sense. ^^

That EQ alone is the price of a CAB M. ^^

Alright give me your feedback once you'll have it, you can do A LOT by just using the right cabinet and moving the microphone to the right place (you need just low freqs, put the mic at the back of the cab or way off axis).
