Not sure when the new one came into play. I purchased this one in about 2012.

The Old Version you have to Remove the Green Bottom Plate to get to the Battery. The Newer Version has a aluminum plate that has a specific compartment for the battery.

This one you have to remove the bottom. I never really cared because everything was always powered.
