Who here has been banned from TheGearPage TGP?

I was banned temporarily yesterday. I'm not complaining, because I realize I didn't follow their rules correctly so it is what it is but I have to say, the reasons are quite petty.

1st warning - Member posted a guitar he was curious about purchasing and wanted to know what the going price was etc. I posted and gave info and also mentioned I had one for sale. Warning 1, No Soliciting outside the emporium.

2nd warning - I had been out of the loop on guitar gear for over a year and didn't realize Soldano SLO's went up on price due to Mike retiring. Saw one on the emporium for an absurd amount of money and questioned the seller on his price. Warning 2, no heckling sellers over price.

3rd warning - Someone mentioned that the music scene in Austin, TX on 6th street is not the blues scene it once was and is now taken over by hip hop and pop artist. I posted and said to the effect I wasn't surprised because liberals have taken over in Austin. Banned, no political talk.

Been posting there since 2003 and never have received a warning. Fall of 2018 I received my 1st warning and then it went down hill from there lol

Sounds like you're complaining to me.
The guy is trying/considering selling his guitar, and you jump in and try to steal his sale.
Douchey to question a sellers price in his own thread.
Your liberal comment was just dumb.

Warrant a ban? Dunno. But their forum, their rules.

Like I said not complaining and even if I was...........wtf cares? Just curious if anyone else had been banned also.

Trying to sell his guitar? He was looking to buy one.

Yeah but I didn't have a clue that the SLO's went up in price over the scare of Mike retiring and thought $10,000 was a bit steep when I had bought mine for 2500. I wasn't a dick about it, I just simply asked why the high price etc, etc.

Liberalism, socialism its all the same.

Someone had a thread going over there a while back, which has since been deleted, and part of it was about the HBO Michael Jackson documentary.

And I got a two week ban for the following: "There is evidence to suggest Michael Jackson may have been a vile person." I thought that was pretty milquetoast, but I was informed my conduct would not be tolerated. Well! No private messages, no warnings, just a two week ban straight out of the gate. Even made the ban so I couldn't even read the forums or receive communications on my classified listings. Nice.

And now they're deleting posts and threatening bans over there because someone said "boobs" in the Game of Thrones discussion. I'm not kidding. And two posts later people were posting memes with "F****** this, and F****** that" and nothing was said.

Not sure what the point of a discussion forum is where no real discussion is permitted. I guess TGP is okay to chat about tube amps and your grandmother's biscuit recipes, but that's about it.

Folks, I've been running large forums for almost twenty years, and if any of my moderators or admins acted as confused and hypersensitive as the ones at TGP, I would welcome them back into the general membership with a pat on the back and a thank you for their efforts.

Good lord.

I'm guessing "gassed out flap jack titties" wouldn't go over too well either.

Sounds like they have a good ole boys club over there where their buddies can get a way with murder and regular folks get in trouble for a sideways glance.

I can't figure out why politics, religion and other charged non music/gear subjects are brought up on any forum. Maybe it's just me, but the old saying of "I never discuss politics, or religion..." seems to work out best in any public arena.

I've got enough of that on FB from friends I thought were smart, who are now experts on just about anything. Some of them are from high school, they had high GPA's, but they've certainly descended to room temperature (or less) IQ in the last few years from what I remember of them.

I've been banned at the TGP for questioning a seller's thread, simply asking why the serial # isn't complete. I didn't think it was fair, but I took my one week banning as a vacation from posting.

TGP has it's rules. They change, I didn't keep up on the latest ones, I got my wrist slapped for it. It's pretty much the same in life, you can't say what you want when you want without consequences.

Agreed

I was banned for saying the PRS John Mayer signature model looked "ghey". Well, that was just a warning.. It was after I got the warning for "insulting an artist", (1 week ban), that I told Big Mike to go fuck hisself that I got the ban.. I hated that fucking guy.

I was a member there 13 years, and the last 2 or 3 it really changed. Political correctness, and hurt feelings over silly, stupid shit. People there walked on water, were high and mighty, and yes, there was a "group" who were special. Yep, "good old boys". You were belittled for discussing "metal" amps, shunned from society of you didn't like their flavor of the month, and constant warnings for the dumbest of things.

Mike's a good guy, but if you break the rules, you're gone...just that simple. With almost 200,000 members they don't have time to "splain it" to you anymore. That's why it's changed in the last few years.

Yea, if you choose to post over there you better walk on egg shells.
True enough, but there have always been those posters who forget they agreed to the rules to become a member. When they post weird crap or start flame wars (many times under the 1st Amendment Free Speech guise) they get bitch slapped.

There is no free speech on any forum that I know of, they all have consequences for saying stuff against the individual forum's rules.

You were ratted out by other members. Mods at TGP have openly divulged that they don't have the manpower to audit the entire capacity of the forum on any sort of thorough regular basis.
They rely on other members reporting rule infractions to them.

That's been the case for years now. When I joined TGP in 2003, I was member # 2800 or so.

There are 178,000 members now. There are 1800 active members online right now as of. 8:11 am. PST.

No way that 6-8 mods can cover that many posts, remarks, flame wars, etc. realistically.

In a thread on Alex Trebek’s illness, someone said that he was the most important game show in history. I replied by asking him whether he was aware that the current POTUS was a game show host. Then said that I was simply stating the fact and would say no more since I didn’t want to get into anything political. That got me a ban.

So I guess if someone asked about buildings to see in New York and you suggested Trump Tower to see the interior waterfall (which is kinda cool), that would be bannable.

I once commented that while Wink Martindale's performance on the original Tic-Tac-Dough series was charming if not admirable during the 1956-1959 season, the 1978-1986 run contains Wink's best work and made Tic-Tac-Dough the game show classic we all remember today.

Got a stern warning and two weeks off for that one.

EyeHateTGP Bunch of idiots over there. Too anonymous so it's nothing but moronic high-school level B.S. when you ask for legitimate answers.

LOL, as soon as you put POTUS in your post, you were done. You seriously thought the "stating the fact...and I'd say no more." was going to keep you from being banned? Hee hee

ya just got the axe for trying to argue there's nothing wrong in commenting on (popular) artists' appearance.. in a thread about Orianthi where a couple of guys were loosing their shit because somebody (not me) dared to comment (positively) about her appearance.

fair enough.. it is what it is, I am sure we'll all survive the event :p

they're uptight snowflakes for the most part. if you state your opinions you're guaranteed a ban at some point. I only post in the classified sections primarily. questions how high someone's price is usually isn't good - unless it's a Wizard modded by Cameron that some dude wants to sell for $7000, that's fair game :D
