Modded Recto better than stock?

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never found a boosted recto to do what I want. It always seemed like way too much noise and frequency interference in the high mids/treble range. What I’ve like about modded rectos is that it gives that boosted sound w/o all that noise

Mod sounds good here! Not sure if it’s quite my thing but it does sound good
 
I liked the last Badlander 100 I had, dialing it in took a little time vs regular Rectifier settings, but hitting it with a Suhr Koko boost added a great mid snarl and retained the low end. The BL is tighter than the Recto and I preferred it to the last Multi-Watt Recto I owned, however as Rectos go the Triple Rec MW is king (unless you find a Rev F.) I wanna try a Ground Zero but I am also fine boosting rectos - screw the OD haters. :ROFLMAO:
 
The list of thing dan travis absolutely hates:

1. Rectifiers
2. Reza
3. Overproduced youtube videos with pedestrian, painfully average songwriting in the demos

But honestly, the mod sounds good? Take that with a grain of salt, because I really don't like rectifiers except digitally modeled, where I can take away all the flub and fizz and make it sound less like a rectifier and more like a good sounding amp :ROFLMAO:

Also, you have a shitload of killer guitars brent - I especially like the Suhr tele - that thing is badass.

That checker Blackback marshall cabinet is also absolutely sick.

All in all, I am definitely not the target audience for this, but you did a good job with the video on everything objective, that isn't something i subjectively hate. Would definitely rather watch your videos, Brent, than the same reza video that he's made 11400 times with the same signal path that makes a bogner uber ultra and a gz hellion sound like the same amp:dunno::rawk:

Thanks Dan. I actually agree with everything you said regarding my vid….including the songwriting. I don’t know how these guys come up with killer demo songs. It’s something I lack for sure. I wouldn’t call Reza a friend, I know of him and his reputation here but I gave credit where credit was due and he’s how I found out about the JT mod. I also had no clue Reza was the inspiration behind the mod until John sent me his dialog to use for the video.

And honestly, most of them DONT come up with killer demo songs, IMO, so I wouldn't be too hard on yourself. It showcased the sound of the amp well enough. It just has the "i'm writing a song for a youtube video" vibe 😬

I would wager you could get some really sick sounds out of the raw and vintage channel with that blackback cabinet.
 
The thing about the "recto fizz" everyone complains about is, IMO, that's what make them work in the live band mix. Kind of like a good Marshall- in the bedroom they don't make anywhere near as much sense as they do cranked on stage.

Listening to this demo I am hearing an eviscerated bottom end like a Badlander. It's a cool sound, but not what I think of when I envision the Recto sound. I actually think the Badlander is a fantastic rock amp, the lead tone was on point & it cut the live mix well. Much better than most Mesas.

Also to be fair, I've had a ton of trouble getting the Recto's huge ass to present on the microphone anywhere near what it sounds like in the room, so this could also be a factor here. That's why I like to spot check with the iPhone or a condenser to get a real representation of what I'm hearing.

Even though guys have had real hard-ons for Revs C-F the last few years, I believe time will show that a boosted Rev G is still the classic Recto sound. Don't get me wrong, the early Rev C I had was unbelievable, but also not a traditional Recto sound.

FWIW my current Triple G was a killer stock, and me being OCD I had it Rev C modded- and while the tone is technically a bit more clear, better mids & less boomy, I don't think I'd do it again. (comparo linked below) The Triple G is damn near a perfect Recto sound possibly only bested- maybe- by a Triple F. Also, the mod destroyed the clean channel which was a bummer.

The reason I like pedals with a Recto rather than a mod is simple- with a mod, I'm locked in, and my tastes tend to change over time- or, maybe I want to play a different style of music. With pedals I can have as many tonal options as I have pedals.

Also just to throw this out there, if you want a true comparison you have to reamp & level match, then eval through good studio monitors. That'll really open your eyes to what's real vs. what's unintended bias. Anything less is entertaining but not educational. I'm patiently waiting for someone to do a proper A/B reamp test with these flavor of the week modded Rectos..

P.S. good luck with the YT dreams! I've watched a lot of guys blow up that started way after I did, and I understand it. It's much more about the looks, showmanship & the presentation than about the technicality of the content. I've never given a shit about looks or monetization & I've been rewarded with just that. :ROFLMAO:

Thanks man. I find it more rewarding to be a specialist than a generalist. Even though, "generalists get more views". I like to deep dive!
 
I talked with Mike Soldano and Randall Smith about modifying my Tremoverb. I decided to leave it the way it is.

I agree about the G being the sound. I feel the same about lots of things people say on the forums. I understand people have preferences. It's just not what I am looking for.

My experience is the fizz goes away when you turn the amp up. Individual Rectifiers are more prone to it than others. Some it pretty much never goes away.

I think the fizz was mainly on the 3 channels.

He came to another forum, started posting his shitty vids of his amps that were for sale without any other kind of engagement, when I told him his SLO was a little boxy compared to his other amps he went on a tangent about all of us playing “wanna be” amps, quit the forum and asked for all his content to be deleted, then made a video I assumed aimed at me about hate on the internet

Wow...That's interesting. I've checked out his channel and I'll tell you one thing he is very talented at: Making all high-gain amps sound almost exactly the same...It's amazing.
 
Give me any recto that’s not Hermanson and I swear after I set ut up it sounds the same .i just a recto only
