I have an '87 Jackson strat and agree it's one of the siky-smoothest necks I've ever played. Mine is set up as S/S/S with Bardens, so it's my actual strat, just with a pointy headstock and a original Floyd. They may not be cheap, but they're much cheaper than the earlier San Dimas era Charvels and play/feel very similar.

Love the soloist. They're great guitars. I've played a ton of them over the years (as well as Kelly's and Warriors's) but never owned one. I prefer the unfinished bolt-on necks to the painted ones, but still neck necks - one of the warriors came from the factory with an unfinished neck, and it was sweet.

Congratulations on a nice axe! Play it loud and in good health. How soon will you be converting it to gold hardware or was that just the clouds making the trem and tuners look black?

LOL j/k

I just sold one of those a couple weeks ago. Great guitar ! Light years ahead of their latest offerings except for the position of the volume knob

Wow, congrats! It's a good day when a Jackson guitar falls into your lap. I once had the high end American made King V. It was in a pawn shop. One of the tips of the body was broken off and 2 of the tuners were not working. Paid three hundred bucks for it. Got 2 new Jackson tuners, polished it and put new strings on. Flipped it for $900. I would have gotten more for it if the body didn't have a broken off tip. It was an excellent instrument. Flawless build quality. I hope you have many years of enjoyment with that fine guitar!

I have a 1998 SL-1 that was built at the factory right up until paint, then pulled off and sent to the Custom Shop, painted Black Cherry color, and final assembly. It now has the EMG "Lukather set" pickups with SPC control added to the control cavity. FU Upgrades Brass block, spring claw, and coated springs. The SPC control adds back the mids that are lost with the Floyd Rose versus a hardtail guitar.
