In a few hours i will have one of those new EVH 15 watt LBX heads to finally hear in person.
Found one for $450 in like new shape just needs a power cord,no biggie.
I have read many that own one say it is a bit different from the 50 watter in tone
hope this is true since i already have the mini 50 watt.
any LBX owners? opinions?
 
Tried one in a local store sounded great to me, it sounded very similar to me but there will be differences due to tubes, but it still kicked !

yeah seems all of the owners of these are really liking it(aside from the $700 price) :D
I personally would not pay that much for a 15 watt mini head but for $450 delivered to my door i figured why not.
It will be more useful for me at home at low volumes than the 50 watt is.

yeah thanks that vid was very informative and i am really stoked to hear the LBX is "brighter"
has less gain and is more old VH sounding on the blue channel.
On his LBX vs peavey's 6505MH he said the LBX is similar to the soldano HR25?
God i hope that is correct,i love the HR25!
as for any clean stuff i will just roll back the guitars vol knob :yes:

Ok got the LBX and played it for a good hour straight and went back and forth between the 50 watt head and the LBX.
My conclusions are the LBX has a better overall tone andf gain structure
it has a cleaner gain if that makes any sense? :confused: :D
the 50 watt and the LBX both have more gain than anyone would need but the LBX's breakup just sounds better to me.
The blue channel reminds me a lot of a old rodded marshall super lead dimed
which i am happy as hell about because i love those amp!
The no clean channel has not bothered me but i am going to be using it only at home
so i can see where some players will miss a dedicated clean channel if they want
to use it in a band.
What i am doing is using the blue channel for rhythms and red for leads
when i need to go clean i back off the guitars vol knob and it works great for me.
very old school VH sounding with reverb and phase 90.
the blue channel with the gain at about 11 o'clock still lets you back off the knob for cleans and has good gain for rock and old school metal(think priest and maiden)
I don't think these are wort $700 new? that's a bit high and too close to the 50 watter's $999 price
but for the $450 i payed( I friggin LOVE craigslist for gear!) it was a good move!
and for FWIW philip mcknight was speaking the truth when he said this is like a poor man's soldano hot 25.:rock:

BTW, i dont remember if it was here or on another forum but to the guy that said these LBX amps are good for nothin but a space heater i say you don't know jack shit about good tone!
to call these a "space heater" is comical and all but he was being serious and that is a stupid thing to say IF you have played through one.
They things are loud for 15 watts. could be used with a band if cranked

loaded with creamback 65m's but i am going with V-30's
I prefer more "edge" to the tone than the CB's get

For instance i got a ibanez S540ltd worth at least $700 for $125!
some people dont know what they are selling. guy thought it was a cheap guitar?
I mainly use Craigslist locally but i see deals in other places :thumbsup:

I am really lovin this lil LBX, it just sounds so much more marshall on the blue channel than the 50 watter? :confused:
 
Cool little amps. I played my buddy's through his evh 1x12 cab. Sounded great! He let me borrow it so I could try it through my evh 2x12. Sorry to say that it didn't sound as good through the bigger cab.

Mine sounds great through a splawn 2x12?
My 2x12 is a vertical recto style though, maybe that makes a difference?
what about it did not sound as good?

Could be the vertical. It was too glassy on the top end and didn't have the low end chunk that I get out of my evh 50 watt through that cab. I knew it would sound different because of big vs small bottle tubes, but I much preferred the lbx through the 1x12 evh cab. Not that it was "bad. " just wasn't my thing.

After playing a blackstar ht 5, a friedman pink taco, and the lbx, I'm learning that anything below 50 watts isn't for me.
 
Nice, $450 is a no brainer! You don't like it in a month, you sell it for a small profit and move on! Win-win.
