new pickup for a Les Paul

Any suggestions? I'm gonna want it to sound great through a hot rodded Marshall and of course my VH4. I love Warren D'Martini's on an Alder body but i'm not sure how they would be through an LP. I was thinking about Nailbombs, Doug Aldrich, Burst Bucker Pro's.

My wife has just put a Nailbomb set in her LP, they work really well. The neck gives lovely sweet mellow tones and the bridge can bite the arse off a Bulldog, lots of nice crunchy mids and doesn't skimp on the bottom end either. I'm strongly considering NB's for my LP

Of course it depends on your playing style, I think NB's are particularly suited to the VH4, but if you play a lot of vintage then maybe something more like BK Black Dogs? Or BK Mules for the classic LP sound.

Nailbombs would get my vote though.

James Lugo, who is posting here did a monster pickup shoot out. I think a Gibson Les Paul was used so it might be good reference.

My preferences are for 57 Classics /Plus:)

James ?

+1 Peter

My Edwards Les Paul came with two SH6 and goddamn are they HOT!. Very high output and pretty tight.

They even sound good clean too surprisingly.

I'll end up swapping them for something with lower output and more of a vintage feel. But for now they're staying there and they sound pretty good for rock/metal.

The Bare Knuckle Mule is a pickup you should check out. My brother has one in the bridge of his Les Paul and it sounds amazing. The Nailbomb is also a great option.

If you like the DeMartini tone and want a hot pickup, a Bare Knuckle Holy Diver can work very well in a Les Paul. 15.5k, alnico V magnet, with nicely pushed mids for that 80's vibe. That's about the hottest I would go in a Les Paul and especially pushing through a VH4...there's already a lot of gain going on and you don't want to darken and compress your tone too much with the pickup being too hot.

If you want more classic 80's with less compression in your pickup and more brightness, a Wolfetone Marshallhead or a Bare Knuckle VHII. Both are around 9k, so they are more similar to a hot P.A.F. You'll get less drive from the pickup, but a more open tone.

Godwoods, 2nd Degree BlackBelt and Marshallhead's for a more standard LP sound are absolutely killer. For more high gain sounds, Cold Sweat, Rebel Yell, Iron Man rules. Check out the shootout and hear first hand.

I went with a Godwood, Cold Sweat, Rebel Yell and Fire in my 4 Pauls. All very different. The Godwood is an amazing pickup! The other one that may be nice for the DiMartini sound is an old JB.

All your videos are SWEET thanks a million!!!!

+1 on an old JB. Tons of 80's guys used the JB back in the day, and some still do. The HolyDiver is BKP's version of an old JB...so it's basically a handwound, high-quality take on that pickup.

I should point out that the HD in my Suhr sounds NOTHING like the current run of JBs. No ice-picky nasty nasally shit-tastic brittle upper midrange to be found (can you tell I don't like the JB???  ). Then again, the current iteration of the JB is nothing like it was back in the 80s. As it stands, any guitar I buy that has a JB gets a swap within the first couple days, no exceptions :D

Check out a duncan blackout. I threw one in one of my custom and it sounded very powerful but still had that natural sound, played with my modded jcm800 the harmonics jumped off the board. I know its weird for that stuff but it worked for me
