Although this is not a Friedman’ amp specific question I thought it might be of interest to some forum members and if anyone would have an idea I’m sure it’d be the Marshall-whisperer himself Dave Friedman.

My friend has a particularly spectacular sounding ‘76 master volume JMP 100w with a weird “issue”. When we ran the head on a loadbox ( Two Notes Torpedo Live, Fryette Power Station or Rivera Rock Crusher) we noticed once you had the master on the amp up past 3 or 4 the actual transformer in the amp was vibrating and rattling. It almost sounded like loose change bouncing around inside. Should he be worried? Is this a fortuitous sign of bad news to come?

That is totally normal. Your hearing the output transformer..

Cool. Thanks. It was just a little alarming because it was surprisingly loud! I’d heard similar sounds coming from my Two Notes Torpedo before but never from the actual amplifier transformer itself with my Friedman.

Totally attenuate the amp and listen to the output transformer... you'll hear your playing through it.

Oh, we did. Having never really experienced that we were alarmed.
