Hey Dave and all ... what are your fav noise gates? Would be placed in the loop for some high gain chug. Preferably in pedal form.

Used to have ISP on my board but read somewhere that it's not the most transparent in the loop. Looking at MXR Smart Gate.

Have seen dave say before he likes the mxr smart gate

for the loop id use an ISP, smart gate was best up front IMO.

gate the guitar and suppress the loop.

EVH used the Rockman Smart Gate (the half rack space module) in the loop of the original 5150 Peavey amps...I use one in the loop of my Cameron CCV. Love it.

Yes Steve Stevens uses this in the loop of his SS100. I use it & it's great

Smart gate unless you want a really hard chop then the decimator.

The Decimator II GString is wonderfull and 100% trasparent (used with 4 cables method)

It has been about 10 years since I owned an MXR Smart Gate, but I remember it made my amp sound like it was covered with a blanket when the Smart Gate was turned on. The ISP Decimator worked a lot better for me and did not change my tone. This cheap little Mooer Noise Killer is basically a little Decimator though it comes with a Hard/Soft cut switch. Works like a champ and cheap too.

Why not just wire it into the amp like in the Peavey XXX scheme or whatnot??!?

The Decimator G-String created a ground loop hum for me.

+1 on the MXR Smart Gate
+1 on the Mooer

I use 2 Mooers when running a stereo rig. Otherwise they both sound and act the same. I prefer the MXR just because it feels a bit more rugged.

Maybe a problem with your power supply?

It's a common issue with the G-String. Had the same issue. Ran it through an Ebtech Hum Eliminator which solved the issue, but i honestly don't use a gate at all anymore. The BE is quiet enough for me.

zero noise/hum with G-String 2 here ...

Guitar->G-String->Micro Vibe->MK.4.23->AMP->(send)->G-String->Eventide H9->(return)
Power supply: Spot Pro CS7
Switcher Looper: Joyo PXL-Live

I've used a ton and the G String II takes the cake. I have the Decimator Rack version, and while not cheap, there is almost no tone degradation that I can hear and you can even roll off volume for cleans and it doesn't fart out like a lot of noise gates do. If you have the money, or just want the best, don't waste time, get one.

I also have the G String II pedal and it is almost as good as the rack version. Again, little to no tone degradation that I can hear, and volume roll back works, which, to me, is one of the true tests of a good gate.

I've used many, including the first generation G String, and none even come close.

In my experience the ISP Decimator II on my pedalboard works very well! what I also like when in Clean the sustained note does not get effected, where many pull down the sustain & decay or a sudden "threshold cut-off" with No tone degradation (from what I can hear from recordings) with others I would turn off the "gate/downward expansion" then when the amp is in gain-mode and more sensitive to incoming noise from other pedals the ISP is awesome. I find when in a studio or playing around the house I don't use a "Rack noise-gate" but in "Band" levels there great.

I have used ISP pedals and rack units for years and never have had any issues in any application I have used them in. Rock Solid stuff in my experience.
