What happened with the actor playing Alex? Something to do with why they killed him off?

i also think (and this may just be because i’m a bit stupid) that they could have made it more clear what the hell was going on when the ring entities were doing their malign business during Ring transits

first season had me captivated though, something very visceral in the way they handled the protomolecule thing especially

He got cancelled for trying to get some nerd tail at a convention I believe. So amazon killed him off....
