Hey guys is there a trick that I am not seeing that can get the Uber channel as tight as the 1st channel? I am sure this has been asked but I was tweaking knobs and just cant quite get it done! Thanks in advance

Twin Jet is not tight amp,but you can try poweramp presence at 3:00 and gain less than 1:00

Interesting, I used to boost my Rev 2 and Rev Blue Ubers but the Twin Jet was the only one version I didn't boost lol.

But as said you could try boosting it.

The TJ's first channel is tighter though it's inherent in the design imo.

My TJ experience is it comes pretty tight, minding the bass/bottom on it.

To each their own.

I guess I must just be an old fogey, but I dont know what the hell you kids are doing to these amps to make them seem "not tight enough". Between my '94 dual rec and uber rev 2, ive never had that problem...even though tons of people say neither is "tight". To each their own I guess...

If you want a more dry, tight tone, try backing off the gain to around 10 or 11 o' clock. Also try increasing the master presence and backing a bit off the depth and bass knobs.

That being said, all Ubers are not VHT-tight amps. They are more or less saggy by nature, with the Twin Jet being the tightest of them all because of the KT88 tubes and general design.

Hey Russell you play a Zakk Wylde LP with EMG's if I recall, so you're hitting the front end with a lot of signal not all that different imo.

By the way your Rev 2 clip is still one of the best ones on Youtube imo after all these years.

I remember boosting my Rev 2 with a Bad Monkey and I don't think I ever had a bigger recorded tone it was just monstrous lol.

Thats a valid point, thanks. Ive actually never thought about it, but the EMGs probably are acting much like boost/buffer.

Thanks for the kind words, by the way. My uber's been waiting for a re-tube. Tubes are due to arrive tomorrow...can't wait! I'm switching back to EL34s, instead of E34Ls. I think I like the deeper low end extension with the EL34s. Is everyone biasing at 28mA per Bogner suggestion these days?

When most folks say tight - I hear dry, sterile, and lifeless. For my tastes the amp has to have a little squish and give so when you play it your have that bounce under your fingers. Boosting an amp just changes the attack and feel. Ubers are about as tight as I like.

I think the amp is less stiff and easier to play when biased a bit hotter, at around 33-34mA (about 60% dissipation). That's what my Rev 2 is at with the E34Ls. 28mA is around 50% and is on the cool end of the spectrum, and it feels stiff and choked at that level. I think Bogner recommends the lower bias setting to prolong tube life and to prevent their amps from blowing up quite as frequently, since the lower recommended setting might keep people from pushing their amps too hard with a higher setting.

That being said, I like the Twin Jet at around 38mA, which is what Bogner recommends.

It definitely changes the attack and feel, and some of the frequency balance as well (at least with a lot of pedals). I think some people look for a much faster, sensitive, and responsive attack, especially for metal, whereas someone playing slow, chugging power chords or someone playing alternative rock might not need an attack like that. When I boost my amp, I try to find a balance between increasing those traits about the attack and maintaining some of the amp's original character by setting the Drive knob to 0 and the Tone and Presence knobs to noon on my Maxon 808. It also helps with the mid-frequency spike that a lot of OD pedals tend to throw in.

The Rev 2 responds especially well to being boosted, as it can be a someone sludgy amp that requires some forceful picking. The Twin Jet (at least to me) is more responsive and doesn't "need" it as often.
