Using a Bias Adapter.. should I remove Eini's fuse?

Hey all,

This feels like a total N00B question, but still: I have recently bought a Bias Adapter (like the Bias Rite), where I can just plug the tubes in the adapter and then in the amp's (it's an Einstein) tube socket.

When biassing the "old fashioned" way, I used a DMM and removed the fuse. Can anyone tell me if I need to do the same when using the adapter?

Thanks!

R. :lol: :LOL:

De rien.

With an adaptor you are measuring at the cathode of the tubes (internally is a 1 Ohm resistor - with this 1 Ohm R you are "converting" the Milliampêres to Millivolt), while the test points of newer Diezels are located at the anode of the tubes, where you are directly measuring currents. So the DMM is located instead of the fuse and you read the (Milli) Ampêres.

With an Adaptor you are reading Millivolts (set DMM to 200mV DC) and the anode (where the fuse is located9 needs to be untouched.

Another thing to keep in mind:

Adaptor = reading 1 tube
direct current reading = reading 1 PAIR !

So with your adaptor adjust the single EL34 to 33-35mA (=mV in this case).

Perfect! Thanks for all the info.

I will bias pairs (it's a 100W) @ 65, like stated on the Diezel website.

:rock:
