I encountered an issue at rehearsal last night that I couldn't quite make heads or tails of. First a little background/context.
I have two half stacks:
A. Early 80s Marshall JCM 800 2204 and g12-65 loaded 4x12.
B. Friedman Dirty Shirley and a special ordered matching Friedman 4x12.
Up until last night is never noticed any sort of issue. That being said I was getting an of sort of high frequency grounding buzz when I tried running the 800 through the Friedman cab.
The sound only occurred when the guitar's volume pot was on. Hit a tuner/mute, roll off the guitars volume and the buzz went away.
I tried a number of different signal paths. Plugged straight in and used several different cables. Still the buzz. Tried my wireless unit and the buzz went away. Plugged back into the amp using different cables and the buzz returned. When I ran my 800 through the Marshall 4x12 there was no buzz.
Long story short there is something in or about the Friedman cab that was creating some sort of ground or electrical "buzz".
Unfortunately my Friedman head was at home so I was unable to see how it reacted.
Any ideas? Thanks.
