OK boys: School me on the amp modders...

Hey guys, I just joined the board and wanted to add to this thread.
I bought the above mentioned Caswell modded 800. It's badass. period.
It's hard to get it to sound right due to all the different pulls and mods he did to it but basically you have a lot of tones once you figure it all out.
Clean, with a seperate clean volume.
Crunch, like a stock 800
Stage 1 mod, where its like a more overdriven 800. Perfect for hard rock rhythm
# 39 and then in the #39 channel you have 2 seperate gain toggles.
My favorite tone is on #39 with the upper gain toggle engaged. It's awesome. It's razor sharp and not fuzzy. With the 2 gain toggles engaged, its closer to Lynch territory but too buzzy for my needs.
The amp is equally great for rhythm as well as playing leads.
My bogner 101B is now for sale.

I've been in touch with him, and once i get my amp it's is on it's way!

You wouldn't happen to have any clips by any chance?
Oh...and what amp is yours? A JCM800? Plexi?

Just as an FYI I was using a bogner 4x12 with Vintage 30s and had the master around 7 to get those power tubes going.
Tim put in groove tubes el34ls and the marshall high gain kit preamp tubes and got rid of the stock 800 tubes

The amp is a 2203x
So JCM 800 reissue
I just got the amp a day or 2 ago and need to get her down to the studio and record some clips.
Honestly this amp would be great for the studio due to all the tones it can dial in.
Stage 1 for rhythm and 39 for lead is pure rock n roll
or
39 for rhythm and 39 with a EQ in the loop with midboost for Lead for hard rock.
Also, for the appetite record tone the key is adding reverb. It will smooth out the tone to where you need it to be.
The tone reminds me of the cameron tone to some degree as well as the splawn quickrod tone.

Sounds like it's right up my alley!

I havent heard a cameron clip online I truly liked either but that was due to the players using too much gain imho. It's hard to "nail" the appetite tone when you're using way way way too much gain. The reason I bought the amp was because I liked the voicing of the tone and it's razor sharp quality.
Going from that to my Bogner is like going from a knife's blade to peanut butter.

Yup..the voicing is what I like.
Besides that, i'll try to make it 'my own'.

I think it's closer to like 4 months...he does the mod when he has time i hear.

Not sure, he told me 2 weeks to 2 months today.
Doesn't really matter....it'll b worth it.

Over all you will have to check to see who still presently offers to do mods as I've heard mixed reports. IE: I heard Mark Cameron is wrapping up his back orders and focusing on his own amp line however you should really check with him. I've heard from many people that Scott (Splawn) is no longer performing mods as he's focusing on his own amp line but again check with those you are most interested in and see what they have to say. Our turn around time for most modifications is 3-5 business days and if you have any questions you are more than welcome to call and talk with a tech as well as myself.

Off the top of my head;

Alan Cyr (CA)
Alan Phillips (MA)
Marc Cameron (CA)
Doug Roccaforte (CA)
Tim Caswell
Andy Fuchs
Tom Cauble
Dave Bray

Hope it helps! :)

So your telling me Caswell could mod an JCM800 to sound close to AFD
I would die happy!

clips of a jcm800 i think with the Caswell SIR #39 mod....the "amp" that tim did was a super tremolo...not a bad sounding amp at all..i was jones'n to get a newer 50w RI and having the Caswell mod done to it..but now that Mark is coming out with his amp...that voice in my head says dont buy anything til i hear one

yes thats true his mods are for 100 watters only. Mine is a 2203 so I'd assume that the one in those clips is the same type of head, not a 2204. The tone of the caswell mod seems more hot rod marshall than mark's. Mark's has a voice and vibe all to there own. Caswell's seem to just take the original and move it further along. Also Tim's seems more bright and less gainy as well. At some point though, they are both fantastic heads and well worth the price of admission.
