For that all out thick fat chunky sound, which amp and cabinet does anyone recommend to achieve that similar tone and thickness of the above mentioned. Please include any mods, pedals used etc. Cost does not matter. Could you also include clips if possible..... So far I am thinking of a Peavey XXX with a vader cab and swapping out the output tubes with JJ EL-34s and the pre amp tubes with JJ 12AX7s. Maybe a parametric in front of the amp (furman PEQ-3) and a boss metal core in the loop to add a bit gain. I have a rg 7620 fitted with Seymour Duncan Invader in the bridge position. 9-46s and a 56 for the 7th string. Am I on the right track? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks everyone.

Gary Holt post here, so he might pop in and fill you in.

SHKM was XXX so your in the right ball park, he also uses HBE pedals......

Sounds like you need a ampeg VH140-C or a crate gx130c for canibal corpse tones

An XXX can get that tone, and if you want one, I'll sell you mine ;)

I thought Kill was a XXX and Recto? I know Lordovchaos knows what they used.

I believe kill was recorded w/ boosted rectos and crate gx130c.

btw, a metalcore pedal in the loop, sounds like a disaster. the xxx has more than enough gain to do those tones. everytime i've played one in the store, halfway up was enough gain for deathmetal. even if it didn't putting a pedal like that in the loop, would be a bad way to boost.

Thanks for the info guys. I will go with the XXX. I have just got onto a couple off Randall Warhead cabs, the 4x12 and the 2x15. Does anyone own any of those. I am keen to hear what you think off them.

i don't have one of the warheads, but i've played thr rg100es randalls forever. to me the new ones have more distortion, but lack in real punch, and tone. the old ones ( rg80/ rg100es), need a boost to get to the same gain levels, but have that extra warmth, and tone quality. having said that, i just bought a 5150II, because i wanted a more modern amp that i didn't have to boost. you can go to my bands site: www.diavolo803.com . all our songs are done with my randalls, and a maxon808, as a boost. it may not be your tone that you're looking for; but it will give you an idea of what they're capable of.

Isn't the gx130-c the one that is supposed to be similar to the Ampeg VH140-c?

Has anyone tried out the 2x12 combo version?

Thanks.
