I don't care who runs it, as long as nutjobs stay banned.
I could care less about reading pms as long as there is stiffer moderation.

 Of course if everyone leaves then the 2 nuts that were banned will take a lot of satisfaction over it. But in the long run, they're both a cancer to any forum they post on so keeping off should be considered preventative maintenance.

Just out of curiousity - Have Chris and Mitch ever actually spoken to each other? I mean over the phone or in person. The internet seems to foster negativity - and part of that comes with a level of anonymity and the 1 dimensional communication that occurs. If the capability exists - i.e. - you guys have each other's contact info - and I would hope that you do. Pick up the phone...and talk to the guy. I can tell you that I'm incredibly disappointed to see this forum sliding rapidly towards extinction.

Sorry Mitch. You gotta go. Bow out. Change your name and move to another board.

Or if not, Chris and Bob where are we going next?

What Thump had was the idea, the vision for rig-talk. What Mitch did was type some letters and numbers on his keyboard. There's a big difference between what the designers earn and what the assembly line schleps earn.

I missed that whole thing...what do you mean by "squishy face"? Do I even want to know?

There was some flame war that MikeV was involved with. Someone put squishy face right below his moniker. I didn't follow the entire flame war but at some point in time, he asked to have it removed. I don't know what it meant though.

Yeah he changed my account as well. He added the doucher and hairydouche to mine. What a baish.

No offense to Chris but he didn't do anything new really. This isn't the first time that the concept of a minimally moderated forum was thought of or implemented. Nor is it the first time I've seen a mass exodus of people to start a board run the way they think it should be run. Let's get some perspective.

What made this board a success was who Chris and Bob are. Not the concept. All IMHO.

IMO, the success wasn't who created it, but those who posted. Like you said, it wasn't a new concept. I've suspected long ago that PMs weren't exactly private. There obviously isn't a code of conduct expected for the posters, why would we assume the Admins would have one. I'm not pointing fingers, just making a general statement (as dangerous as they can be).

Yeah, you're definitely right that the community also played a role in the success.

I think a lot of people joined because Bob and Chris are well known from HC...but Mitch did a lot to keep this place running, he definately desrves credit for taking care of the tech side of things, it runs better than HC or many other BB boards.
The reading PM's thing is just not right though...and I guess if you were on Mitch's bad side he would change your account settings and delete posts without notice.
Anyone running a forum should remain unbiased and really not do that kind of stuff...either let a member be here or ban them.

The amp manufacturer's thing is definitely pretty rare and a very cool thing.

McDonalds didn't really do anything new either did they? Doesn't mean the guy at the drive-thru window should be able to own the name and look through the gloveboxes of the cars at his window. :D

Actually they did but that's not important. In fairness, perhaps I didn't really appreciate the unique things about rig talk. I just thought of it as a HCAF without so much moderating. And I'm certainly not debating Mitch's actions.

Is Mitch going to answer for any of this? He doesnt expect it to just go away if he avoids it does he?

I started it myself. Mitch was soo adamant about being part of it that he went out and registered the www.rig-talk.com domain and pretty much force himself into the group. I was warned by a very smart person that it would be a mistake not doing it all myself and of course, he was right. So now we're stuck with a message board that can only be controlled by Mitch and he's running it into the ground.

I don't really have any options that this point, except to start a brand new board named something else.

Chris, Since you have the experience and the contacts to start up a successful board as rig talk WAS, please do it once again. I will contribute $$$ to help get it started and whatever else you need from me and my customers is yours. We can spread the word, etc.Dont let this punk destroy a great thing. The name may now be his but the majority of membership is NOT. Use my personal e mail address(at my site) to contact me so sweet cheeks cant read it :D Thanks John

Yes, definitely.

This place has grown into a very cool place, no doubt. IMO, a third party mediator is in order. A lot of mistakes are being ruled by emotion from all parties involved.
