Got a Friedman BE50 deluxe last week for a fellow forum member and really haven't had time to do much with it.

Last night I sat down with it, dialed in a quick tone and hit record. Honestly, this amp sounds killer. I like it more than the JJ so far for sure. More rawness in the mids, more punch in the lows. The voicing switches are nice.

Sat Switch on the back is off, as I have it boosted in the front. On the HBE channel, I can't see anyone needing the sat switch for saturation. Tons of gain!

Again, Friedmans record better than any amp I have owned, including my precious Splawns LOL Take a listen if you feel inclined.

Nice. I loved my BE50 and later got the JJ100. The BE50 brighter and had sharper mids, IMO. Just a great amp all around and I would buy another one in the future.

What do you like about it over the Splawns for recording and how do you compare it to the Splawns for jamming/live playing?

Cheers.

Can't comment on the live playing because I just got it, haven't played it at practice yet. I agree on the sharper upper mids though, and I think that's why I like it more.

As far as against the Splawn stuff, I think the Splawn is still more raw, way more stiff and a bigger tighter low end. The Friedman has A TON of 3D sounding harmonics that just make the amp sound so rich and nice. It just translates better when recording, IMO, even though I like the Splawns better in the room. It's almost like a pre engineered recorded tone right out of the box.

Cool, thanks. ...Yeah, I agree with your assessment of the two. Loved my Pro Stock, but couldn't keep both at the time. Friedman has more 3D and Splawn is a bit tighter with a massive low end. Not that the Friedmans don't have good thump, but Splawn is just another level.

Enjoy the amp, man!

I still need to try one of the BE Deluxe models. Sounds just like what I found lacking in the JJ Jr I had and have found in the Quick Rod. I like the extra high end and high mids to cut a bit.

Somebody over at TGP has one like new for $2500 shipped. I've been contemplating grabbing it. If anything, I surely wouldn't take a loss if it didn't work out. Just might be overkill for me, I like simpler.

Fantastic amp! Really miss the one I had. However, I just don't need it at this point.
Still...always enjoy hearing one!

Thx for sharing!

Sounds good! It would probably sound crushing with the Sat switch.

It's funny, because the BE50 Deluxe sounds so bright and yet the BE100 Deluxe sounds much more darker. Still haven't seen one video in which sounds as bright as this.

One thing I don't like about the BE50 Deluxe though is that it lacks the C45 switch. That switch was one of my favourites in my BE100, it gave the amp a more vintage feeling.

Also, I don't really understand the need for a plexi channel in the modern BE line. If you want plexi style sounds, use the gain structure in the BE channel and the guitar volume. And if you want dirt in your clean channel, you can use a pedal (like the smallbox pedal, for example) or roll the volume off in the BE channel.

But having a beautiful clean channel like the Buxom Betty, gives you better clean tone and a more diverse sonic palette. We always wanted the perfect Fender + Marshall amp all in one, and that's what you get with the Betty + BE channels.

Would the SS100 kinda fill that void? Great American type clean and the BE high gain stuff...

Killer amp too for sure, it meets the requirements.

But the BE side it’s dark voiced and personally I prefer bright sounds.

Great clip. I'm also considering grabbing one of these. Used would make my wallet much happier, but I think Dave's making some tweaks to the board. Gotta get some stuff out the door first either way.

Thanks man! I may put this one up, still loving the simplicity of my Runt 50

I have a BE 100 Deluxe and I can tell you that I can make it as bright as I want to.
