I def. hear differences going between old warn out tubes and new and then two 6CA7 from different manufacturers. So to me, there is a diff. Does it make THAT much of a diff on a recording to spend 100$ a tube? No.

They are different to my ears, at the end of the day that's what matters to me.

I have a nice NOS collection around but I would not pay current prices for any of them tbh. just tubes along the way that I have gotten cheap, snagged a deal, etc.

I have my formula that I start an amp out with, and it works for me. my only favorite real clincher is that I like the Sovtek 12AX7-LPS in the phase inverter most of the time. I find that to work well for ME.

Also how could there not be a difference? there are differences in the physical construction of the tubes, granted the same concept is there but different tubes are made differently.

also to note that NOS tubes seem to last a lot longer than new production. I have vintage Fenders with the original tubes in them that I have pushed hard and abused for 10 of those years. that is another argument entirely IMO. But to me it doesn't justify the cost personally for me.

He also suggests that if you disagree... do the Null test yourself and it will tell you if you are correct or not.

I do agree with his statement that no one who disagrees every provides evidence.

Yeah he put this vid out just to get people bitching. If he really believes that he should buy the cheapest 12ax7's on ebay(or where ever) load them in all his amps. Glenn, Fluff, etc all do videos saying "this doesnt matter" then 6 months down the road there will be a vid "this is the best ever.." completely contradicting themselves. Everything matters. From your hands to the speaker and everything in between. How much it matters may vary.

I've stopped watching his videos. He's gotten extremely annoying to me for some reason. I saw he also did a tonewood doesn't make a difference video.

For as much experience this guy has he's an idiot. I personally feel he's just resorting to click bait and putting out anything he thinks will garner views.

So I actually spoke with Glenn today via Facebook. I pretty much mirrored my comment in one of his posts in a group.

TL;DR he was actually very cool and respectful. He explained his side and I have to admit from a business standpoint it made sense.

I haven't watched these recent videos but as I assumed the thumbnails are clickbait. He kind of confirmed this in saying a few things. It's about the views, these are the things the viewers want and how he's already tested different video types and titles and how most get no views and videos like this get way more.

What would you click on? This or something that said Solar review?

As a guy who eats from producing music and making YT videos I suppose he'd want as many views as he can get.

I was going down the Youtube abyss over Thanksgiving weekend, watching countless demos of Marshall 1959SLP reissues and thinking a lot of them sounded better than my Metro clone build. I was thinking about swapping in some mustard caps or finding a stock Marshall board and installing it. I spoke with my amp tech about it today and he said the right tube in V1 would make a bigger difference and for a lot less money and headache. I have an old Mullard in there now. Not sure I can get better than that for that amp.

Ya know, assuming Uncle Creepy is operating in good faith, and he hasn't manipulated the vid to achieve a desired result, is the Captor IR box responsible for homogenizing the tone of the clips?
Maybe plastering the same IR on all the clips causes them to null, where they wouldn't have completely nulled if he used real mics and speakers?
Just wonderin'.....

^ That was the discussion point on another forum I think. I don't have the expertise to know one way or other but it does make sense. That the 'tone chain' helped nullify the output. He flat out said people should not spend money on NOS tubes because it is a waste of money. I think most of us could disagree with that and I don't even spend a lot of money on NOS tubes.

While I admittedly didn't watch the videos, thats probably the biggest disagreement I had. Ive compared tubes as well as different wood types and there's absolutely a difference. Maybe negligible but so is a 6505 vs a driftwood for example.

These youtube folks gotta keep talking about something...even if it may be wrong. Click Click Click

One more thing.... In the Pete Thorn EVH deep dive vid, am I the only guy who had an "OH shit " moment when they dropped the NOS Sylvania 6CA7's into Pete's amp?

Oh yeah, the dude is an undesirable for sure.
