Congrats man. I have yet to ever see a Splawn anything in person... Would love to try one though.

So, does this have 1st and 2nd gear, and toggles via a footswitch only?? I notice no rotary switch.

I recently talked to Scott about a mini Competition, and I honestly never used 3rd gear ever. I'm about to lay down a deposit. Just wondering if the Super Sport gives me the same thing.

What's the footswitch layout?

glad it worked out. Why is the EQ in the loop a necessity?
I should have worded that differently. The eq just gave it a bit more sizzle. The amp does what it's supposed to.

maybe “ necessity” was the wrong term. The eq took it to the promised land. Without it I couldn’t get it to sound “great” to my ears. It was close to going on a FS thread until I tried the eq.

No OD 3, really the only thing my specific head is missing and tubescreamer easily takes care of that in either Gear mode
I actually find myself on Gear 1, OD1 80% of the time with the gain around noon and click on the tubescreamer when I need it
for my 'band stuff" .
For the shred stuff I turn it up to 2:00 and hit it with a pedal, works great in either Gear.
Even with just gears 1, and 2 thing can get plenty gained out and heavy. I don't play much 7 these days but I pulled out my RG752 and jammed to some Nevermore and it sounded great, not like a Recto , but with the mid scoop old switches on almost like a 5150.
Gear 2 boosted can sound mean (the 10 band EQ really can help in a scenario like this)

I have the 4 button switch with my SS
clean/gain
Gear1/2
Od1/od2
Solo boost (automatic od2 and volume boost)

As far as a 10 band EQ in the loop, I just use it to "fine tune" the sound I'm going for and with the cab I'm using at the moment.
tonality between Thin Lizzy and Pat Travers is similar but a touch different , more so than say Satriani or the Allman Brothers.
or Led Zep and collective Soul or STP or ZZ top or Badfinger or Bad Company for that matter.
I have to navigate all of these tones for the Band in play in, all Marshall based but different. It's nice but I don't "need" it.
No one but another guitarist would ever notice , it's more for me :)
I may just start programming eq's into band specific "patches" on my FX 8 so it's automatic, once I settle on the 2 cabs 'm keeping

How is the gain levels on this? I have the mini Nitro SS w EL34's and the gain is off the charts compared to my QuickRod. The thing is just plain nasty (in a good way)

I think the Nitro has more gain to it. Coming from a JVM and before that a Mesa Mark IV, I don't find the Splawn to be a super high gain amp, just
really good usable gain. I don't like diming the gain on any amp , I think it effects the tone in a negative way, so I keep the gain below 3:00 on both gears,
If I need more I hit it with a pedal. on Gear 1 I'm usually at 1:00 on gear 2 at 11:00 , plenty of gain for hard rock.

Yeah sounds like the QR. I'm at about 8 oclock on the Nitro SS for AC/DC type stuff.

Sold off my other cabs and settled on this for the gigging rig (whenever that starts up again)
I've got a IRig 2 incoming so I will try doing some quick vids to see if I can capture the sweet tones this thing can do.
25 watt Smallblocks in the Splawn cab (man this cab kills) I may need one of his 4X12's :)
Scumback M75/J75 combo in the Mojotone.

is the Nitro kind of like Scotts version of 5150?

SO, as you know on the other forum, I have a few Splawns. I don't have the Nitro but do have a Super-Comp full sized 50 watt head. It's basically his 1 channel smaller version of the Nitro , similar to how my Comp head is the 1 channel smaller version of the Quick Rod. Anyway, I'd take the Super-Comp any day over a 5150. . I owned a really nice originial 5150 at 1 time and it was nice, and there's obviously many great bands who've used them, but the SuperComp is just really great sounding and has the gigging features , (great fx loop, different tones footswitchable, and variable solo boost, etc) . . I know there aren't many SuperComp's out there, but I can't believe way more people wouldn't love them, especially if they found most Marshall-types too bright, etc. The Nitro I'm sure is unreal for fullness if someone is using drop-tunings or more than 6 strings also. ........ . To answer your question, no it's not his version of that, but yea it might appeal to some of the same people who'd love 5150's. .
