Has anyone tried the "Alex's Attenuator / Scumback" ?

I am in the lookout for an attenuator that would keep somehow most of the feel of the amp. Now, I know that there are a lot of options but I am just interested in this one.

I have an old Alex's before it was Scumback, have had it for years. It is bullet proof and use it everyday. It's not a reactive load attenuator so it does affect the tone a bit (but they all do). It does have a treble add knob that works well if you are playing at TV volume. Hope that helps.

Its listed as being a reactive attenuator on the scumback site. https://www.scumbackspeakers.com/attenuator.html

I did notice on the 16ohm Alex attenuator I had, that the more it attenuated, the more the tone was affected, but like you I compensated with the high switch. I don't imagine the Alex attenuator would be that great in a reamp setup.

I got rid of mine a few years back, in favor of the Fryette PS2, which has a switchable impedance. I think I would have been better with an 8ohm Alex attenautor, but had a 16, so that limited what amps I could use it with. Today I am out about reamping, so I still have and use the PS2, along with a suhr RLIR on another amp, and am likely getting a standard Suhr RL. I found the power amp of the marshall valvestate to work well for my suhr RLIR reamp setup. Likely going to use the power amp of an ampeg V4 for the 2nd setup.

Interesting. I didn't realize the Alex's was a reactive load but I do see that on the website you posted. The PS2 looks great, will probably get one some day and of course you can't go wrong with any Suhr product (too many choices).
