While I love my unidyne SM57s, they are too wildly inconsistent to do a mic technique like this appropriately I found out. So here’s a clip with 2 new SM57s, in a mix. High and low pass on guitars and a general mid cut around 500hz, that’s it. Pultec eq on the mix buss which I really enjoyed for this.

Sounds good. Did you just do the boost/cut Pultec trick?

Nah, just a slight boost about 2 on 60 hz on the master bus, and a slight 1.5 or so boost at 1k

the pultec trick is cool at times for sure, but for some reason, my mixes tend to be already light in the 3-700hz range as it is for some reason, so doing the boost/cut thing in the low end will thin that area out even more. It’s definitely a great trick that works and sounds killer, but to me it works better on submixes/busses/groups of instruments vs doing it on the entire mix buss.
