I told my buddy about @Braciola ’s vintage 87 Marshall jubillee cab with Marshall vintage speakers in it, and he scooped it up. I went and picked it up, mic’d it and…. Man, total fail on my part. This is one of the best cabs I’ve ever heard. Absolutely bar none. If you find one, buy it, the 8 ohm speakers from this era absolutely kill. Here’s alittle reamp: 5150, horizon drive boost, new sm57 DEAD CENTER on the grill, and it’s perfect to me. These speakers are insanely focused compared to anything I own.

Yep, those og 8 ohm Marshall Vintages are fat warm and awesome. About 8 yrs ago I drove to Chicago and picked up an 87 AV Jube cab for 350. Ended up selling it for 800 plus shipping but damn do I regret it.

Mannnnn I would kill to have one, these are just so so good. I wonder how these compare to new Marshall 8 ohm vintage speakers, that would be a great test, because I can score some of those, but stuff from this era is impossible.

That sounds great. What model speakers are in there?
They are Marshall celestion vintage speakers: they are 8 ohms, unlike the AV/BV cabs which are loaded with 16 ohm versions of them, and are much brighter. They are however, still very different than the older ones to my ear anyways. My BV Cab is much brighter as to be expected, but they are also much spikier than these older ones. I am so bummed I can’t keep this thing!

You're going to have to be way more specific as far as the celestions that are in there, I can forsee 3000 comments ?

May not be related, but recently I tried an 8 ohm off-the-shelf Chinese v30 and I liked it way more than the 16ohm I had before, they are noticeably different. The 16 just sounded spikey, honky, muddy all at the same time, the 8 ohm sounded more balanced.

I wonder if that carries over to the Marshall voiced G12 vintage speakers. I wasn’t fond of the modern Marshall G12 vintage speaker cabinets I’ve tried that were all 16ohm.

Yes, but not exactly.

Much like Mesa has their own version of the Vintage 30 that Celestion makes for them, Marshall does as well. In fact, Marshall's version is the original Vintage 30. Except it's not called "Vintage 30". It's called the "Marshall Vintage". Same 444 cone and 70W power handling. They came out in 1987 in the Jubilee cabs. They still make them, but I guess, based on this thread, that the originals had some sort of mojo to them.

Yeah, 16 ohm speakers are always brighter and slightly more scooped than their 8 ohm counterparts.

I personally prefer 16 ohm speakers. I find 8 ohms honkier and duller, but then again, all of my amps were designed with matching 16 ohm cabs in mind.

I have a reissue Jubilee cab on the way. Hopefully it arrives today.

I just sold an '87 SJ 4x12 "A" cabinet with the same speakers for $400.00 cash. I live approx. 10 miles from Braciola... Had I known you were looking, I would have sold you mine.

Only place to find these afaik are the Jubilee cabs or combos....although another RTer said they first went into the Artist combos the year before. Best way I can describe them, they are fat and warm with a perfect mid response esp with a Jubilee circuit. The newer ones seem to have more of an extended high range; vs these earlier ones. Either way they are great and 1 of 3 cabs that I kick myself for selling.

I could cry right this second…. Literally about to cry.

I have a 1987 Jubilee straight cab with the Celestion 16ohm Marshall Vintage speakers in it. Serial #0002. Excellent condition. I’m in the SoCal area. PM me if your interested.

I had it posted on CL for nearly 6 months. I was ready to sell it to GC when someone offered me $300.00 or $400.00 for it. I can't remember which price I sold it for? I got $2600.00 for the head, so I didn't lose any money on the rig. I ended-up getting a mint 2554 1x12 combo w/8 Ohm Marshall Vintage speaker. I rarely play through it. It's a Canadian version, which IMO has more gain. Sounds better overall.

Ahhhh man I think I saw that on Craigslist for awhile. That was you? I could’ve sworn it said it had 75 watters in it! Man, I’m so bummed, I did see that cab for quite some time on Craigslist!

I removed the Marshall Vintage speakers and put the stock speakers back in. Still, the price was really good for an '87 SJ cabinet.
