Any Jimi/ Trower players here?

I always think of it on NYE or New Years Day for obvious reasons. My favorite Jimi record for sure.

I learned lead guitar from Robin though. Robin Trower Live (1976) was my introduction to fast-ish lead playing. He ripped all over that record.
I lost count how mant times I saw Trower, starting in '76 at Madison Sq Garden NY. I recorded the show as well. I had the binoculars out, taking in all the hand positions, trying to get a clue as to how he played certain things.

That was a bit of amp gain mixed w/ the fuzz. If the amp had been clean, I wouldn't have got that sound. Add a Vibe and some reverb and there it is.
That was a backing track played thru my stereo and I jammed along.

Ok cool. I run my amps fairly clean, so that is likely the reason why I didn't bond with them. I'll get a vibe at some point.

Assuming your vibe is analog, ever heard anything good digital?

Not as far a Vibes are concerned.

They have a problem with rotary speaker stuff too.
Sucks cause I'd be running it into a loop of a modeler so any analog benefits would get
squashed by the first A/D converter.

The stock one in the Quad Cortex is 'ok' but it's like a lot of the good but not great pedals,
sounds good with the bass and drums pumping but just doesn't nail the vibe of the solo
Bridge of Sighs and Too Rollin Stoned signature riffs.

Even though Trower is associated w/ the Univibe, for a few years in the 80s he was using a Boss CE2. Tunes sounded killer played w/ chorus as well.

Ha, I've gotten by using chorus for Trower stuff for decades!
Most of the best univibe units were just to big to keep on the board for how little I'd use them.

I was already a Moore fan when I had to learn that song for a cover band gig.

Spent a solid week getting every little nuance down and ended up being able
to nail the whole thing. Gave me a new level of appreciation for Gary breaking
down his bends and phrasing note for note.

If you ever want to give your clean channel a workout pick up Blues for Greeny
and jam to that.

It's like going to a master class on early British blues.

100%.

Do you like running the vibe before or after the fuzz, I assume fuzz first? Your tone sounds really "focused," I have a hard time with my strat getting more "splatty" and loose. Sounds awesome!

In that first vid I put up I had the fuzz first, going into the Vibe. You can get away with running it that way and sounding good if there is some gain on the other end, in this case the amp.

If you run fuzz>Vibe into a clean amp you get that Who's That Lady type swoosh. It's a cool sound but not good for everything.

Generally though, I go Vibe>fuzz (or Vibe>OD, distortion, gainy amp)

This is the Vibe going into a Duallist OD then into the amp.

Great tone and playing. I can smell patchouli!

Trying to find a good Uni-Vibe setting in the BOSS MS3 but not finding success.

Hey, thanks for the reply; I'll try your suggestions out! Also, appreciate all the vids; definitely cool.

c-slice!
long time--still waving the freak flag high!

king tone stuff is killer. love the duellist! what is your fuzz of choice now?

you'd be proud of me-i have a tc viscous vibe on my current board, and although it doesn't sound as 3-D as the $$ analog boutique stuff on it's own, i found a little secret; if you stick an old EH small clone in front of it, it gets way better!

there are also some vibe sounds in the H9 i have that i think are pretty nice, for a vibe noob like me!

for boutique analog, the weaver scarlet vibe is sounding pretty cool!

I've been thru many fuzzes. For me, the Roger Mayer Visage Fuzz. 45 variations of Jimi live and studio tones.......and I got the 4 different EH Big Muff variations. I got a big board, but no fuzz on it.

nice stuff and very professionally wired! xts is no joke.
i'm really happy with my current pile of toys:

pedalboard 9_6_21.jpeg

visual sound volume pedal->rivera 4 loop switcher:

loop 1=cali 76 stacked
loop 2=modulation boxes which i combine manually
loop 3=klamac arc furnace OD--total SRV machine (in the Duellist zone)
loop 4=hermida dual boost & ethos overdrive--great combination!

out of switcher-> belle epoch dlx+APE preamp->secret pre->dd-500=>H9

i could improve the switcher to get more loops and reduce size as i'm maxed out, and add one more voodoo power supply under the board to eliminate a few more wall warts!

Damn, that first video was incredible. That's the vibe sound I have been chasing for years.

Yup.

I saw RT several times in the '80's at the Thirsty Whale in River Grove, IL. Good times.

Hendrix was a huge influence on me from a chordal standpoint. I'm not much of a strat player though.

Your clip sounded great.

Ed
Seen countless shows and played there many times! That shithole was always a good time.

I love Trower. My whole heritage in my playing is Trower / Hendrix / Gibbons / Page. My band does at least 4 Trower tunes a night. I love playing his stuff (whether I do it well or not haha). And throw in a heavy does of Frank Marino too for that matter. I guess I am weird - I like the metal era of Gary Moore better than his blues phase. I mean, Still got the blues is a great record but I would rather hear "End of the World" haha.

If any of you guys have a chance to get the live DVD of Frank Marino - it is killer and worth every cent of the $100 price tag. Especially now that he is retired for good......I did see him once in like 2007 or so. He was killer. Not many of those guys left out there
