Why not just log out and forget about it?

That way you can resume posting / selling immediately should you ever change your mind one day (no 50-post requirement).

Because laws exist nowadays to protect the rights of users. I don't think it matters why he/she wants to delete the account. And your opinion on whether or not they may want to reopen the account is irrelevant if they are protected by law. I'm not trying to be snarky, but as a moderator, you really should make sure you don't get your owners in legal trouble.

All but one of the four mods have replied to this thread saying essentially the same thing; we were simply offering alternatives. Nobody said it wasn't possible.

It's clearly stated as the last sentence in the "brief" (by today's standards) "Terms and Rules" document linked to at the bottom of every page and the OP is welcome to hit the "contact us" link to talk to admin:
"If you wish to close your account, please contact us."

Had the OP responded by saying that he / she doesn't want to take the options offered, we'd have pointed to that one, but as things stand he / she has been absent from the thread since creating it. On the face of it it doesn't seem like an urgent matter, for what that's worth.

A user asked how to delete an account, which is protected by law. The response didn't include any instructions on how to do it. That was remedied. He posted instructions. Everything was good. You didn't need to chime in your opinion.

If you want to say mods can ignore laws, be my guest. Otherwise, fuck off. I don't care if you think it isn't a big deal. The dude has rights. Stand up for them like you want others to protect your rights to spam junk all over the place and protest at the Capitol.

Jeez, this turned ugly quickly. Everyone take a deep breath...it's an Internet forum FFS. It's not real life, and in 48 hours no one is going to care. You shouldn't post stuff on the internet that could be an invasion of your "rights". You signed away those rights when you joined any forum, not just this one. There are moderators that moderate and rules you agreed to.

Frankly, just signing off and not logging in again is the easiest, simplest solution for the OP. Why is everyone turning this into something it doesn't need to be?

Get over it already!

What a hilarious thread....which it should be. That's why I clicked on it actually. Who even asks this question? Just log off and stop coming here already...
(somewhere there's a girlfriend or wife who'd say "See what I deal with?" )

I remember threads back in the HCAF days where people would always announce their departure. It was always met with "You'll be back!" and the next day, the person claiming they are leaving returning to flame everyone. I guess they want people to say "No, don't go!" but it's more like a Willy Wonka "No, don't stop."
