I also personally think The Extremist and Crystal Planet are amazing albums. The "Time Machine" title track is also one of my faves.....the tone, playing, overall vibe just fucking rules

Satch never sounded better than when he was using Marshall Jubilees and a DS-1. I find his solo tunes boring. Most of his tunes are exercises to show off some new technique he came up with.

Satch never used Jubilees. He used the 6100 30th Anny heads with 2 DS-1 pedals.
 
I've been watching CS vids all week. The dude has a lot of energy and feel..
This whole video is really good. Circa 1993.. Yikes..

not of this earth is still my fave of his. saw him on surfing tour at the Roxy around this time:



..and his tone was great! He had marshalls and a tc 2290, and broke a string during the solo in Surfing, so he stopped, changed gtrs and asked the crowd, “I can keep playing from the solo or start over again. what should i do?”

we shouted “the solo!” so he counted it off and blazed!

Next was Viv Campbell Riverdogs and EJ Venus opening for Satch/Flying tour at Irvine Meadows and it was just ok, Final time was first G3 tour show at Hollywood Bowl where he was the best act that night.

I was pretty much blown away the first time i heard that.
Surfing with the Alien was recorded with a Scholz Rockman & 1959 JMP Marshalls.

A lot of people shit all over the Boss DS-1 but listen to his Live in San Francisco tone. All DS-1 into clean 30th Anny. Sounded fucking tits!
 
I realize opinions are like assholes but if someone says Satch lacks emotion I instantly turn you off and attach the permanent heading of ‘you don’t know WTF you’re talking about’ ?? Go listen to the Extremist for the first time.

Im not a big Satch fan but the extremest was a really great album I thought. Easy listening yeah but really great songs. And I agree, lets hear some original music from the guys that are bashing Joe. I bet he runs circles around them,. I can understand saying you dont like his music but saying stuff like he sucks or whatever comes off really dumb sounding.
