Figured a gauge of public sentiment would say more than I could in an "argument" about it.

The only person that would call that a personal attack is a person far left of center…
Anyone else would just laugh and shrug it off as part of every day life.
They scream ‘tolerance and rights’ and yet they have zero tolerance and offer no rights.
They ‘publicly’ stand strong and appear to show great strength, but cry and whine and bitch and complain to everyone, the government, including the moderators on here, I would expect… They live a lie, constantly saying, ‘I would never do that’, while they are doing it every day.
A completely delusional sick group of people.

Yep. It certainly seems that we have a whole generation of people that wake up every day and do nothing but look for reasons to be offended.

Its just kind of setting or resetting a boundary when someone crosses the line.
A punch in the nose would be a "personal attack".

I honestly think the phrase is recieved the same way with or without the person's name. I'm the camp that it's just words. But I also could care less IF it's meant to be a personal attack. Sometimes people just need to vent.

Is saying "Fuck Off" to someone in real life a personal attack? If you said "fuck off" to someone in real life how would you expect that person to react? If "fuck off" isn't a personal attack, then what exactly is it? A Christmas greeting?

My personal opinion is that it's a generic phrase of dismissal. I'm not here to debate it however, as I implied in the OP. How it's generally received is inexorably linked to general-public perception, hence the poll.

I requested that members express their views on this so go for it; just don't expect a to and fro from me. If I felt this warranted my getting involved in a debate I wouldn't have created the thread, poll or invited member discussion.
