Come on. I say this as a fan of Dream Theater and of some prog metal... progressive metal is basically the nerdiest genre of music possible, and Dream Theater are the kings of it. It's just not something that appeals to the broader demographic of women like it does men. Isn't it kind of self evident?

Amazing musicians, songs typically dive into as Rush called La Villa stangiato 'an exercise in self indulgence'. Many of the crazy technical keyboard parts sound like circus music to me. You listen to it once and go 'wow impressive' and for me anyways never cue it up again due to other weirdness factor. Not all their songs but many don't need the added 3 minutes of listen to my technical prowess sections. And yeah chicks could care less about that sort of stuff

Those technical prowess sections are the main reason I ever listened to them and kind of what I thought they were about. I pretty much hate all the vocal parts.

I've seen them live twice and right when I'm really getting into it...LaBrie walks back on stage and I'm like; "Goddammit!"

I never liked Rudess with DT.
He's too good technically in so many genres that he has to always sprinkle stuff in that IMO often doesn't even fit the vibe of the song/part.

He's not a true ROCK dude and it shows.

He's the total opposite of what sells, especially for females.

LOL although a difference in their ages, DT has pretty much always been this. A Bodybuilder playing a guitar that looks too small for him in odd time signatures and no type of beat for a girl to get behind. They'd rather listen to Jennifer Lopez and have a few drinks. I don't blame them... I'd rather watch Jennifer Lopez myself.
