Tube Costs

Antique electronics supply is Canadian. And yes they used to just send you another back in the day but if you have to ship them back then I agree - not worth the hassle.

Antique Electronics Supply is in Arizona; it's The Tube Store that's Canadian.

I don't even currently own a tube amp and there's a good chance I won't again, but I still would like a quad of 6L6's and EL34's just in case I do. If I did get another tube amp it would most likely be a EVH 50 watt, Marshall 50 watt or possibly a JSX.
I have more preamp tubes than I'll likely ever need. Might sell a few of them.

Dang, you guys got me to thinkin'... Just ordered a quad each of EL34's (Svetlanas for the Bogner) and 6L6's (Sovtex 6L6WXT+), and a pair of 6V6's (Genalex). Most of all my amps have fairly new power tubes in them, so this may be for not. But, I guess it's better to have them and not need them. Certainly doesn't seem like things are going to improve on the tube front any time soon.

Got them from Viva Tubes, and found a really old coupon they had sent with my last order (over 2 years ago) that still worked. You can use code direct1 for $10 off an order of $99+.

I'm right with you guys. Just ordered a quad of EH EL34 and a couple EH 12AX7 just to have.

I shipped an 8 channel snake to a dude in NOLA with UPS Ground on Monday and he got it Tuesday afternoon. Freakishly fast!
Most of the time shipping goes like that. A few months ago I had a situation where I shipped a TC100 with 2 day shipping to New Jersey and the amp was lost for a month. But, I made sure I demanded that it be scanned at pick up so the buyer's purchase was protected, because that's the right thing to do with someone else's money on the line. With Tube Depot, my package eventually got to me after a few weeks. But they allow their packages to be picked up with no scan. After mentioning the problem with that to them, they made it clear that they couldn't care less. So, I got to deal with the whole "we shipped it" and "we never got it" run around for those few weeks. They can blame USPS all they want for delivery times(which were terrible and USPS's fault), but it only takes seconds to ensure the customer doesn't get screwed, and they don't care enough to do that. If a business doesn't give two shits about my money, I'll take it elsewhere.

The order I placed with an eBay seller a few hours ago just got canceled and refunded due to no long in stock. Took me about six more tries on Antique Electronics site before I found some in stock, got two matched quads of EH 6CA7s.

I'm optimistically holding out for the new China facility to replace the one that burned down. They will need to sell a TON of tubes to get that investment back.

Right now I probably have enough to last my lifetime and I have enough amps that I could rob one if it came to that.

But I'd like to have more EL34s considering the way I run my Marshalls now (cranked thru a PS2).

And to think we got EH EL34 quads for about $45 shipped from Nesstone not that long ago.
I doubt they will be back on line. Then again, if they can make a profit, they will build it. ?

Haven’t looked a tube prices, but with what you guys are saying, hope I don’t need any for repairs.

Over the past two days I’ve spent just about $650 in total for mostly preamp tubes and one quad of power tubes. I don’t have any in reserve and of the Russian variants, they aren’t going to get more plentiful.

8x of a NOS variant I use
4x LPS since they seem to be rare as hens teeth
8x of current production 12AX7WC
4x Svetlana EL34 which I use in my Laney

Damn things are like gold.

Based on what it looks like you better hope you don’t need any for repairs. They may not be available at all come summer time. A lot of places are dried up/out of stock or only allow a certain purchase amount. Those that don’t have purchase limits have hiked the prices to account for it. Just nuts.

I have lots of current production Marshall-labeled 12AX7s laying around. Just last week I was tube rolling with some nice ANOS Euro stuff. Turned out a China 12AX7 sounded best in V1 in my Marshall Astoria. Just fired it up for the first time in a few days and it barely made any sound. That tube was real hot, but not lit up. I threw an old RCA in there and all was better. Damn. I liked that China tube.

Just imagine how expensive tubes would be if they made them in the states!

I have enough to get through this current 'phase'. Hope that is all it is.

JJ's get dogged a lot but I've been really happy with JJ EL34 (and JJ 6L6s) but I've been buying pairs of EL34's here and there. Some I have not even checked or biased up yet. I like them in my Rectoverb too.

I spent over $1500 last year on 6L6, EL34 and KT88. I also tested all my old tubes. I saw prices are going up. More than I would have expected.
