Suhr Pt-15IR (and a ton of other gear) left outside all night...worth sending it to Suhr?

Without going into details, my *friend* thought it was appropriate to unload all my gear that was at his house (somehow managed to miss a set of A Custom hats and a Beta 58, but I digress...), set it over my gate and then just not tell me (yes, alcohol was involved). Suhr PT-15IR being one of them, Mesa 2x12, Ludwig Kit, etc. We have a lot of dew at night, especially right now, and everything was out there from maybe midnight to when I noticed it around 10 am. There were two Yamaha PA speakers with oak cabinets that had standing water puddles on the top from the accumulation of dew, and they had already been in the morning sun for a couple hours.

The Suhr was practically brand new. It now has had at least a couple ounces of water not just dumped into it, but condensed onto every part inside the amp. I can't help but think this is going to lead to rust/corrosion/etc down the line. I am very proud of this amp, I have never been able to afford an amp of this quality, and I intend to keep it a very long time. Even if I sell it, I do not want future issues for the buyer.

Suhr has quoted me to service the amp back to new ($70 shipping, but only $75 for labor), I thought it was very fair.

Am I being overly paranoid about the moisture it was exposed to?

If you were me, would you send it back for service?

I assume small claims would be a waste of time.

When he got to my place (I keep my gate locked) he called me 10-20 times over a few minutes time. I had already told him I was done until he sobered up, so I did not answer, so that was my punishment for not answering his calls; not telling me everything was dumped outside.

I have considered what it could have done to the integrity of the speaker cones, possibly the drum shells, I do not know. But pieces of the oak siding on the speakers came off in my hand when I picked them up...he was not gentle, and one of them has has paint or something spilled on it...hopefully I can remove it. The tolex has separated on the Mesa...it is just a mess, from the last person in the world I would have expected it (he was my best man almost 20 years ago, and for the most part, we have maintained our friendship very well), and I am kind of stumped as to what action I should take to protect/repair the equipment.

Any advice, or words of wisdom, will be appreciated. :D

Get over it already! Go to work and when you get home, fire that amp up and rock it out. When you see your friend the next time, tell him he's a douche. That's what you do. Suhr will do the same thing, they'll fire it up and if the amp works, it works.

Fugget about it, shit happens when you drink, life's good.

Even if alcohol was involved your friend deserves a right hook and possibly an uppercut! :gethim: That is complete bullshit and there is no excuse for it! I would send it to them and have them service it just so you have peace of mind good luck and keep us posted and I hope you have a good right hook!

Sell all your stuff because this is all standard rock and roll activity . If it was where I live , which is actually very nice it might have been stolen . Fire it up and see what happens. It's probably OK.

This is the world according to Panhead5.

Sucks about the tolex coming off, but besides that.....it's all most likely completely fine.

I am missing the first part...like, toughen up, because you should expect this? ...ok, sure... Either way, this is very non-standard in the 20 years I have been playing with others. Never heard of anything like this, glad I do not live in an area where this could be considered par for the course.

I am surprised it was not stolen myself (there are some missing items, but someone could have grabbed a pickup and gone to town, since I had no idea it was there).

No, it is inexcusable. I got a PI because of him one night, that is the kind of shit that happens when you drink. This is psychotic. Also I do not drink anymore, due the way it modified my behavior and affected my relationships ad motivation, and have no patience for those who refuse to recognize the same issues in themselves.

Unfortunately he is a bit big for me to entertain any fantasies of knocking him out, he has a foot and a hundred LBs on me. He will just have to sit with this and wonder why now he has zero friends, instead of one.

General consensus seems to be that the amount of moisture that would have accumulated could not cause any issue down the line, at worst it could use a cleaning? This is the most convenient solution for me...but it is a grilled amp with preamp tube sockets directly below the grill, and a pcb below that, there are caps, condensation inside the reactive load, etc, it is hard to believe the moisture could not cause any rust/corrosion...but...it has been in an air-conditioned house since, and maybe there was not contact long enough to hurt anything. It was not plugged in or powered on when it was wet, so nothing could be shorted or damaged due to conductivity.

I would just hate to run into any issues years from now because I did not address it at the time. That is really my only concern here.

Thanks to everyone for their input.

Jesus that's fucked up. Send it in man...it's probably ok but finding puddles of water on your gear is not exactly confidence inspiring, and if the amp is dear to you it's worth a checkup. Moisture really kills electronics, what a bummer.

And I wouldn't bother with small claims court. That's a big headache for your situation compared to something that is more cut and dry (like a tenant failing to pay rent). Sucks when you discover a life long friend is actually a complete turd. If it were me I'd play nice a bit longer in hopes of him turning around/chipping in on the bill but beyond that middle finger for sure.

Yeah, I doubt I even have the motivation for court, but thought I would ask. It does not seems worth it to me either, when it is very much not cut and dry.

Thanks for the condolences, it is a bummer, on a lot of fronts (always weird when someone just nukes a relationship). The amp is very dear to me, it is my primary amp, and I hope it is for a really long time. Thank you for your input.

I would send it to suhr, have them check it out. As an amp tech, I would open it up and see if there is any corrosion on the PCBs and flux residue and clean that up. Then I would fire it up and test. Suhr probably has a factory test proceedure that they can run it through.

Man that’s so fucked up. But ya pull the tubes. Spray electronic cleaner in all sockets. Should be be ok. But that’s completely horrible.

Put it in an enormous bag of rice.:ROFLMAO:

As far as your former friend, that's totally fucked up what he did but why the hell did you trust this guy with your precious amp that means so much to you? Especially if he's such a drunken flake?

Screw small claims. Tell him you want to meet up and talk and bury the hatchet. Reach out to shake his hand. As soon as he does.....grab his arm and pull him toward you and clothes line him. Then kick the shit out of him when he's on the ground. Violence doesn't solve everything but in this case he needs an asswhooping.

Do you think it's still the 80's? They are probably both woke turds.

If he pulls shit like this, he knows why he has zero friends. And as far as him being way bigger than you....let me just say I am a big guy and have gotten my shit handed to me by guys smaller than me before....and if he tries intimidating you....

What a DICK! Yeah, you need some new "friends".

Regarding the gear, as others have said, give the amp a few days to dry out, maybe pull the chassis and put it in a warm and toasty place. Once you can be sure it's dry, it should be OK. Although Suhr will do you right, you could probably have a local tech check it out for less expense and effort.

I think I will just follow through with this. The ones yelling "dry it and fire it up, pussy cuck!" do not seem nearly as...informed as those recommending service. Then there are some in the middle who just say dry it and play it and it will be fine. I will just have to decide that myself.

I will certainly do this in the interim, whether or not I send it to Suhr. Thank you for the advice and consolation. So it goes...

No kidding on the new friends. I am lucky to have some good ones, been spending more time with some of them lately.
I appreciate the advice, I have been unable to find a decent tech in my area who is not a guy who lives in his mothers basement and does not take 6 months to return it to you. We don't even have a decent music store in town. Closest *real* shop would be the Guitar Center 45 minutes away...yikes.

Thanks very much to those who tried to give actual advice instead of veiled insults, snark, sarcasm, and endorsements of premeditated felony violence (I did enjoy the bat idea though, it's just such a horrifically bad one).

Do you think it's still the 80's? They are probably both woke turds.
I have never identified as "woke" I taught him how to build his AR-15 for fucks sake, but I am curious why you felt the need to insert identity politics (or politics at all) into this thread, and to get off a playground insult as the same time.
