I’m a VH with DLR freak but I’ve never understood why he does stick the the vocal melodies and range as done on the records.
No matter, I heard Mean Streets last night and as mind blowing as the guitar is (really, all the instruments) that song is just a cool instrumental without DLR.
But, with DLR it’s a testosterone driven masterpiece.
DLR was every bit as important as EVH.

That's the thing with VH..remove any one of those guys and it would not have been the same. But I agree, those sticky lyrics and the way he delivered were perfect for Ed's rythm playing.
